Replacing Rotors on 05 TL

I'm looking to replace the stock rotors now that they are warped and chattery by 130k with drilled and slotted rotors. Any problems/limitations in doing so. I understand the big brembos fit only the Type S. Ebay is loaded with kits, pads included. Seems like a possibility. Thoughts?

Do a little research on rotors and you'll find that most recommend slotted over drilled or drill/slotted combo. Drilling reduces the surface area of the rotor and also weakens it making it susceptible to cracking (a very bad situation). High performance cars like Ferrari and Porsche have significantly larger rotors than our family sedans and can therefore have drilled rotors with little to no ill effect. Stick to stock or slotted rotors for the safest and least trouble alternative.

I assume you have an auto?

Do you want to upgrade your entire brake system or just get an improvement with the rotors?

I'd suggest the racingbrake rotors.

Hawk pads are garbage. There are much better options available.

I guess I need to qualify. All hawk pads are shit for the TLs with factory brembo brakes. I can't comment on how well they work for the automatic cars.

Rotora makes some nice stock size rotors. I have their 13" BBK on the front and their stock size slotted rotors on the rear.

Quality drilled rotors are fine. It's the cheap ones you have to look out for.

I prefer slotted or blank, just saying drilled are still ok in some circumstances.

DBA rotors are supposed to make an excellent quality replacement rotor.

As for pads, Cobalt friction make some excellent pads. Very aggressive, low dust, excellent wear. I only recommend them with aftermarket rotors. Whats nice is they have a very simple chart with frictional and bite and release characteristics. It makes selecting which pad you want very easy. I went with a very aggressive pad on the rear to make up for my BBK on the front and it seems to have evened out the braking power. They're not well known in the TL world but they're very popular in the auto-x world. Completely different level than Hawk.

I just did a installed RB rotors and ET300 pads on the front and rear two weeks ago and could not be happier. I got them got site vender Heeltoe, all for under $500. I did a ton of research, and it all pointed to going with RB as the best setup.

I went with drilled/slotted iRotors paired with Hawk HPS pads. Have had this setup for about a year now. Saved a good amount of money and I'm very happy with the performance. HUGE improvement from stock.

If you have an automatic, Racing Brake (sold by MrHeeltoe) makes some awesome rotors. I bought slotted ones and they have held up great! Great stopping power, they look good and as well they won't warp and resist fade a whole lot better than the stock rotors. As far as pads go, the choice is really up to the person buying them. Most people either love or hate Hawk pads since they stop great and eat through rotors and make noise, or because they don't stop well and are noisy. I can't comment on EBC or raysbestos pads since I haven't come accross a review for them.

As far as the honda/acura A-Spec performance pads for the automatic, they are good pads. They do dust slightly more than the stock ones, however they do stop well in combination with the Racing Brake rotors. As well they are painted red from the factory and are the same price as the stock brake pads.

Some members have gone with the CMAX pads from Autozone with good results. Life time garanty. Also, you may want to look at R1 Concepts rotors. Good rotor for a good price.

tried to replace the rear rotors but it looks like the parking breaks are preventing the rotors from sliding out, what is the process to remove those rotors?

This is what I did. Same setup. Also purchased and installed by Mr. Heeltoe. Also have experience with Hawk pads and stoptech rotors, not nearly as impressed and its stopping a lot less weight (prelude).

We have brake packages on our website, which include STOPTECH/Powerslot rotors and STOPTECH performance pads. The STOPTECH components have a power alloy compound, black coating on the hubs and vanes, and in some cases curved vanes. The pads offer low dust, low noise and great initial bite and long-term braking performance.

Just choose your vehicle in the list:

There are a lot of great packages and parts mentioned here, but none have worked as consistently over a longer life span than the Racingbrake stuff. That is the reason we made our HT-Spec packages almost exclusively out of Racingbrake parts. We have happy customers with Stoptech, Rotora, Hawk, etc etc stuff, but the guys who really want the creme-de-la-creme get the Racingbrake.

Did you have the parking brake engaged while trying to remove the rotor?

You want the parking brake off to remove rotors...this kinda falls under mechanical common sense...
