Reasonable Labor charge for Shock install

I am in need of new shocks. I can get the parts online but i can't install them.

I called up a couple acura dealers in my area and one says that it will cost $400 to install. Another says it will cost $500 for the install.

Even the markups on the parts themselves are insanely high!

Can anyone tell me if I'm being majorly ripped off if I go to any of these dealerships?

Can anyone recommend any other places to get this work done?

Thanks!

no more than $200 to $250... for labor... this is NYC labor which should be compatible with Cali... it's 2hrs work at most...

In LA area, it shouldn't cost you more than $150. Don't go to dealerships for this kind of service.

Contact MrHeelToe for a quote as well.

I used to go to Spark Racing (http://www.sparkracing.com/) a lot before and they are pretty inexpensive. Joey Lam is the owner.

You can also PM VelfareClubber. He just had a suspension install recently. Ask him where he went and how much he paid for it.

OK, I got this work done today by Mr. HeelToe.

If anyone needs suspension work in the SoCal area, he's your man. Not only is he quick and knowledgeable, he's just an overall likeable guy. You can ask questions while he works and he teaches you about your car. It's a learning experience.

I highly recommend his services.

I will have MRHeelToe do my suspension too... I'm still waiting my wheel to come so I can do it all at once.... I'm still waiting MrheelToe to reply me email... he hasn't reply me since last week... I guess he was too busy with your car, lol... Can you please tell us how much are you dropping? and what is your setup? How much / where you buy the part? and how much is the labor?...

I'm still kindda debating over changing the spring and use stock-shock... or coilover. I plan to only drop about 1".... I guess coilover is better... but price is bit of issue, plus I plan to only drop 1"....

Where around Chicago is there a Mr. healtoe? Or someone like him? When I ordered my Tein Basic coilovers (which I cancelled because many said TOO STIFF) they wanted $300+ for just install If I get Eibach springs which Koni shock will match it and give me dampening adjustment. I want to lower 1" NO MORE. BUT want a nice ride. A little stiffer is OK, BUT not hard like Tein Basic do.

I got 3 quotes for installing my Eibach Pro kits. One speed shop was $200, another was $240-250, and the dealer wanted $576! I'll go with the $240-250 shop, I've seen their shop, and talked to other customers-they do awesome work-plus they sponsor drag days around me, and the manager remembered me coming in in february and talking to him. To me that is excellent customer service!

yea never go to dealerships for these kind of things.. its really simple to do... and my opinion is just to have a friend that knows how to do it.. and then go to a shop and get an alignment...

..oh yea you can help your friend out because its pretty easy with 2 people...

so i say DIY... and save that 100-200 bucks...

Acura dealership a benefit?

I just purchased A-Spec components and had planned to have the dealer install (for $400+). Is this foolish? Is this type of job so routine that any garage can to this for me? Will I lose warranty benefits if I don't use an Acura dealership?

Not any garage- but a shop that does acuras- preferably has some race car interest and has done the job to more than 2 cars before yours!
Every town has an import sports repair shop- look in the phone book
or ask any kid with the lowered honda where to go

Warranty is not an issue- just like adding a CAI or anything else

I paid $180 total for Einbach Pro spring install. He said he would be happier and it would be cheaper to install new complete coilovers because no spring compressing would be needed.

This was done at a Tuner shop, not Acura Its One6 Motorsports in Elk Grove Village, IL.

Yes... it takes 10 to 15 minutes to remove the seats... 6 - 10mm bolts... the most time consuming part is the spring compression 'cause of the danger involved and getting the springs/strut mount to align correctly...
