rear tire wear?

So my friend (pnoi521) pointed out to me that my rear tires are almost toast. I just got new tires (yokohama s drives) about 3 months ago maybe and have less than 2000 miles on them, so i was like wtf?? but sure enough they are basically smooth, no tread left at all. this really stumped me cuz my front tires are perfectly fine and on a FWD car, tire wear is usually worse in the front right? (correct me if im wrong). i am lowered on H&R race springs, stock 17in wheels, no other suspension mods.. i did drive it hard in the mountains once with these tires, but i dont know what could have caused this. any ideas?

It's all in the rear Toe. Have an alignment shop set your rear to around +0.10 deg positive. That what I set mine to to eliminate premature rear tire wear.

If it was toe or camber it would be more worn on the inside edge. If its all worn even across the face then I don't know unless the alignment is a way off like dog tracking.

How much rear camber do you have?

If your camber is minimal, your toe will wear the entire face of the tire. If your camber is excessive, toe will wear only the inner edge.

:From what it looks like the only ides I have are,

1. You have too much positive rear toe and camber and running low psi. this could cause premature rear face wear.

2. You have a case of what I would call, FWDD1. An addiction to your hand brake while attempting right or left turns in your FWD.

theres a tsb on this, but since your suspension is altered i dont think they will do a warranty or a goodwill repair for you. this repair also includes new set of tires! heres the link go down to the tsb 05-076 https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-technical-service-bulletins-tsbs-3g-garage-j-016-a-613659/

I have the same problem but lowered on ss dampers. My tires lasted less than 2500 miles and my wife is pissed because I've been procastinating on having the alignment done. So 2 new tires and an alignment are scheduled for this weekend.

I had the same problem, only mine wore out the insides in 15K miles. Come to find out the rear camber bolts were frozen, and the previous shop only set the toe ( which was at -.5 !) and that's what wore them out. Went back to stock, another new set of tires, and she rides perfect. Before the alignment and new tires, if I let off the gas, it seemed like she was braking without me stepping on the brakes, now she just idles down. Eibachs will be in the BM this weekend. Also got tired of plowing in the winter, RJ kit too expensive to use as a plow.

So did you ever get an alignment after dropping the ride height? That's a very, very important procedure when dropping your car.

Nope never got it done. I know it needed it but I was too lazy to get it done. I also wanted to make sure that the ride height was exactly where I wanted it before the alignment. Plus I am somewhat new to the area and dont know anyone trustworthy to work on my car. I hate having to pay for something that I never had to in the past.

If somebody figures this out please update my thread.

Just killed a pair of falken 452 245/35/19 on the back of my car in less than 10k. Koni Yellows on middle perch and H&R sports. I have my alignment sheets on my thread.

i think it might be camber issue. idk about the threadstarter, but others who have tires faded around the edges probably either never got an alignment, or should invest in a camber kit.

Though the rear bumps stops are an issue (per the TSB), it's curious to note that the biggest complainers throughout this entire 3G TL AcuraZine forum about tire, alignment, and wheel problems are those with 19 and 20 inch setups.

Which all goes to prove this car was only designed to successfully accommodate 17 and 18 inch wheels.

I don't think the car came with 18" wheels so if your theory is right it would apply only to 17".

Its prolly amplified on 19 & 20" because the lack of side wall to flex adds to the wear problem thats on the inside. But across the face to me says its a camber/toe issue maybe combined with the wrong air pressure.

I have an A-Spec and it came with 18", and my understanding is that this is the standard for this model. I had the Yokos and they were worn at 20K. I was seriously pissed, and part of the problem was one of the arms was bent. But there are many posts on Acurazine from peeps that had the Yokos wear out that quick.

I switched to the Michelin Pilot All-Weather Sports, and they are supposed to last 4 years, so we'll see.

But 2K is ridiculous, and I would think it would be covered under warranty, since that is insane. I am with ImPo, you can't have had new tires installed. Hard to say for sure, but I would apply pressure to this issue and mention the posts you've received, and see if they sweat a bit.
