Rear Struts/Shocks: List of Components to Replace Along with Shocks

I need to replace the rear struts/shocks on my 2004 TL, and I was wondering if someone in the forum could recommend a list of other strut assembly components/parts to replace as well. This is a question specific to the strut assembly itself and not to other suspension components. A list that might include bump stops, dust covers, other rubber components, etc. Something like a refresher kit.

^why go through all that trouble when Acura sells the whole shock/spring set up???

probably the only thing that gets worn is the the shock itself. the other components inside the assembly dont MOVE much, therefore no wear and tear.

Like, you could totally re-use the bumpstops, top hats and EVERYTHING else except the shock

I did buy the complete shock assemblies for the front end from one of the Acura parts sites often mentioned in the forums. However, the average unit price per complete assembly for the rear end is more than twice the price for a set of 2 for the front end. Unless you are implying the listed price on those sites is for a set of 2, I don't see why you are suggesting I should go with a complete assembly. Thus that is the reason why I am thinking about getting just the shocks for the rear end.

Some of those components do wear out! Just to give you an idea. I have a 2001 BMW 330i whose rear end bump stops have disintegrated. The high density foam is getting brittle because of age. The same applies to anything with rubber. My TL is now 12 years old.

The rears are indeed more expensive.

well, that sounds like YOU need to inspect the individual components.
if the bumpstop has disintegrated, then obviously REPLACE!!!!

if not broken, you can re-use it.

to me, it would be a waste of time to swap components, as a spring compressor is needed.

Also, If you wanted a list of the individual components, head to.... www.oemacuraparts.com or www.acuraoemparts.com
Both are our vendors and BOTH have pictures of the break down of each individual part.

I'm also looking to replace all four corners with the OEM assemblies but I'm having a hard time finding a place that sells the whole kit! Anyone know of anything?

I don't think you'll need a spring compressor for the rears. This is based on my experience with a 07 TL-S, though. The spring sat lower than the shock threads when disassembled.

Also...I believe KYB sells a whole "strut plus" which is an assembled bunch of components. When I re-did the suspension on a 07 Accord V6 (216K miles), I used OEM honda fronts and KYB rears.

Thanks. I ordered front and rear assemblies for $650 shipped! Anything that should be addressed while i'm working on the struts/shocks? I was thinking of getting new LCAs with balljoints for the front and maybe endlinks but i'm not certain if i'd be able to tell a difference.

Sorry if i'm hijacking!!!

$650 for what brand?

Check your endlinks and ball joints for wear. The 216K mile accord I just did still had the OG ball joints and end links. Still in tip top shape. Accords (TL's/TSX's are accords) are built like tanks.

I replaced the endlinks because they were cheap/easy. Did not bother with ball joints.

Did replace LCA's because of the compliance bushing. I was lucky I bought LCA's because the shock bolt was rusted in place on one of them.
