Ranting.... (i never do this!)

So, i gotta be honest...

My TL-S drives like shit. it always has, since day 1. its floaty, all over the road, real intense body roll... so i figured, im spoiled since the blackura was all modded out , and handled pretty damn good on the parkways...

so i threw in the RSB... nothing.. just stiffer... dropped in the teins... still.. nothing.... car is all over the road, imperfections in the pavement jar the car like mad, it wont stay in a lane too well even though my alignment is 100%.... my 06 TL was NOT THIS BAD at all... it was actually a dream to drive on the parkway, this car is definitely not

I am putting in my EDFC tomorrow, so I can try to adjust the dampening, but i dont think thats it.... i have it on 8 all around now

So the last thing i can think about, is these Michelin MXM4's... are they really THAT bad? i mean shit, they cost like $270 a tire!!

So I'm kinda looking for opinions if you guys think there is anything i can check that i might not be aware of? (end links, tie rods.. i dunno) that would make the car loose and floaty? if i hit a bump on the parkway, the rear end of the car is about to just break loose and go sideways.....im pretty sure i had the MXM4 on my 06 TL stockies, and they didnt feel this "loose" when i rocked them

i just did a full camber, laser hunter alignment, toe & camber to spec... why is my car driving like shit? i see `89 dodge caravans driving faster then me sometimes around bends on the parkway... but i feel like my car really doesnt drive well and its just gonna give out on me...

.... got that off my chest.... lol

any input ?

And how fast is that? (seriously)

The RSB does seem to make the car "jumpy" over bumps, especially in a turn. And I assume the faster you're going the worse it feels.

You should look at staggering your tire pressures similar to the Owners Manual recommendation - Front 3 - 4 PSI higher than the rear. That'll stablize the rear a *little* from a fatter contact patch.

The MXM4's do suck. And once they lose traction it takes a while to get it back. I know my car can easily out-turn these tires. In higher speed sweeper-type corners, it often feels like the cat has a LOT left, but the tires feel like they're ready to let go if they get pushed even a little more.

The only other thing I can think of is Springs. The higher the spring rate, the more they'll force the tire to stay on the ground. I've just got the H&R Sports and body roll/dive and traction improved a lot. Don't know why your're not getting those improvement benefits from the Tiens.

Put your old suspension back on and have acura dealer check it. Maybe you got a lemon. I would say the frame is bent but it's a brand new car it shouldn't be like that. I am not much of a help but good luck on getting it straighten out.

i was thinking the same thing about putting the suspension on but i didnt want to load your thread up lol...having the teins on the car will just give acura a reason to tell you to go screw yourself about a suspension issue..

oh yea.. but what could be wrong on the car? bent frame?? it was a brand new, off the boat... first 08 type s sold outta the dealership... had 3 miles on it... (4 when they drove it to fill up the tank for me)

the dealerships gonna think im nuts.... saying that the car doesnt handle that well when i want to drive in excess of the speed limit..

ive read bad reviews of these mxm4s... but dont like 90% + of our TL's have them? nobody else seems to be bitching like i am lol

I'd say get new tires.

When I had the stock Michelin's I would think exactly what you're thinking, that the car handles like shit. I swapped them out for Falken 452's after about 150 miles and I've never looked back. My car handles amazingly well, and I'm coming from an AWD Audi.

if those are your choices, i'd do the 452's hands down. the RE050's are some hefty tires. heavy as hell. and the goodyears will be chewed up. and since you're in NY, the 452 is a great all season tire with low noise and great handling. but if you got the cash, i highly recommend the Nitto Invo. those are HOT!

dunlop sp sport maxx belongs on a miata haha, don't put them on your TL.

yea? you didnt like the sport maxx... i had them on blackura, they felt pretty grippy.. just noisy... they were expensive at the time... like $250 a shot.. but then again, expensive doesnt mean anything apparantly...

when i busted up a tire and had to buy a new mxm4, i almost shit myself when they told me the price

now... im just remembering some other useful info

when the car had about 1k on it, i busted up a rim and tire... there was like a big wooden 2x4 or something on the LIE, front right wheel hit it at about 65mph... next day, the tire was bubbled and loosing air and the rim was cracked... wonder if i damaged anything else on the car when i hit that... or are these tires really that terrible... because im losing faith in my type-s

mxm4's are terrible.

but that 2x4 might have had some affect, coulda bent the subframe in a weird way. that same thing happened to me last august and my subframe was bent and had 2 engine mounts were gone. haha

i had a total of $8k damage on my TL after that.. but back to tires.. get outta those mxm4's. asap

The 452's aren't all-season, they're summer tires. Wet traction is good, but not great. Dry traction is awesome, though.

I feel the same way about my TL-S. One thing that I find interesting, if I turn off the A/C the car handles noticeably better. Weird.

it's not rated for all season, but it'll do the job. water evac is pretty good, it's got one of the best on a performance tire.

I've noticed the same problem on my 06 TL. The car is doing exactly what yours is doing and I hate it. It has been doing it for a while and then I got the new tires, Kumho Ecsta ASX 245/45 on stock rims and it stopped acting all crazy for a while but now it is happening again.

I feel the same way, as if the car will give out on me.

P.S. - Good seeing you today, the carbon fiber hood looked so mean in my rearview mirror!

I didn't read everything on this post because as soon as I read post # 1... I blammed ur stock as sneakers and socks...

how about you take my car for a spin at the meet

then decide what is going on... I don't only blame the quality of the tire but I also blame the 235 series tire on a luxury sedan

edit: read the shit about the cracked rim and tire... pretty sure you would've found whatever could have been bent or broken when you got ss installed

I agree, but if it was something that was affecting his suspension wouldnt it show either visably or via the allignment?

my new Type S has the same tires though it doesnt display any of the charicteristics that youre describing. Though I just broke 1500 miles and am only now starting to lean on it a little. My first venture was an S turn offramp from one highway to another and I took the S at about 60 or a little more and gthe car stuck to the road.

I wonder if it could be a bad tire? You need someone to swap shoes with you Allon and see if that cures your heartache

If you decide to try new tires I'd say give the Nitto 555's a shot. I had them on a mustang and now I just put them on my TL. I love them. They're super sticky and pretty much adhere to the road. My stock michelins dry rotted on me( wtf) and these blow them away.

I'll be at the meet this Saturday, so you're more than welcome to check them out.

Try what Bearcat said, do 35psi front/ 32 rear.
The MXM4 do seem to "slide" a bit, but I don't seem to have any big probs with handling, I can make that SSP to CIP onramp at 75mph no probs.
Not sure if the tire balance would be an issue when you replaced the rim, but maybe you should check it.

GS-D3 are the better than the two sets of toyos i've had. they are incredibly comfortable and yet still yield good performance.

Hey you can take my car for a spin ...i have a tein ss with a rsb and sum 19s with goodyears f1s and a fresh wheel alignment as of yesterday ...Yesterday my boy dropped his type s with neuspeed 1.8ft and 1.7r so he drove mine and i drove his but what i did notice was that the steering was very heavy and tight for sum reason almost like driving a civic with no power steering kinda, i didnt like it!!! He said mine felt more smooth but he also said that, thats the way his felt from day 1 but he did say there was a power steering recall where the dealer changed the rack and pinion and the power steering .. thats wat he told me yesterday jst going by hear say...but like i said you can take my car for a ride

Damn that sucks. At least you feel better. Try swapping wheels/tires with a buddy. I would also question the workmanship on the alignment, visually check susp components and make sure everything is tightened down.

Was the ride height consistent before the drop as well?

Also now that you have the CF hood the front end is lighter, maybe drop the PSI in the front

Try the tires.

Hard to figure if your grip/handling level is "normal" or not. You need to compare to what others can do in the same/similar circumstance.

Maybe you *know* the grip is weak. If that's the case, tires first. Does not hurt to double check suspenstion for wear, torque, etc.

And almost everybody that actually drives the car complains/hatees the MXM4. I hated 'em on the '02 TL-S, but didn't have anywhere to complain. The only things they are good at is lasting too long and costing too much.

BTW- They are $270 a tire not because they're "good" or "high tech" or whatever, but because Michelin figures they will get a LOT of "I want the same tires that came with the car" business.

Get out of those tires. They are horrible for handling. They are great for longevity and ride noise but they suck for handling and they are soft.

Don't worry, I felt the same way. I told my self that I'll never buy another front wheel drive car ever again in my life. But when you can get such a great deal on the car and knowing that you guaranteed to have no negative equity on the vehicle. This is the only reason I bought my type S. I have to live with it now, so I am going to have to love it.
- I hope you can find the right set up for your taste, Black.

With all that power and torque, I"m surprised you haven't changed the tires!

Even, running stock my TLS was all over the place with the MX4s. You know there is something wrong when I felt my MDX handled better then the TLS when I first got it.(regardless of the SH-AWD, it should not handle better then the TLS)

They are probably the worst tires Acura could have put on the car and quite frankly, I pretty much felt unsafe pushing them, I'm not even sure how they meet the speed rating given to them.

Everyone always recommends, CAI, pulleys, etc first, but I think the tires should be the first thing to go even before they car comes off the show room floor.

Night & Day difference when I got my all season Good Year Eagles F1s.

With good high performance summer tires, I think your rants are going to dissapear pretty quickly.

if you have GoodYear F1 AS in mind at all, don't even think about getting them. they ride damn hard and needs lots and lots of steering inputs. they were 245/40/18.

currently i have Nexen N7000 235/40/18 and they ride much quieter and softer and handles much better on rough roads. i always wanted the GoodYear F1 AS ever since they came out but not anymore. love the cheaper Nexens

Oh really? Did you even try adjusting the tire pressure? Guess to each his own.

Well even if you didn't like them, most of the 183 people surveyed through tire rack did. 97% vs best in category.(Bridgestone)------>

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=8

Tirerack themselves likes them--->test-----> ------>http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=87

So does motortrend---> http://www.motortrend.com/features/consumer/112_0705_goodyear_eagle_f1_all_season

I like them too. ------>

i think its the MXM4s, when you get the new shoes on and its still doing it, i would say throw in the stock suspension and head back to the dealer for them to look at it, but im pretty sure its the crappy MXM4's
