Quick question on tires for stock 16" rims

Well, looks like I won't be able to upgrade my rims this summer, which pisses me off cuz I was really looking forward to it. But finances are hard these days and I want to make sure I get a good set of rims when I can finally afford them.

So, for the time being, I hope to enjoy my stock 16" rims with some nice tires. I know this has been posted, but what are the ideal specs for tires for 16" rims that will give me maximum traction and a nice wide stance.

Oh, and can someboyd recommend some good tire brands to look into. I'm in southern Cali so don't have to worry much about poor conditions. Just some nice rubber for handling and looks (and hopefully not too pricey!)

thanks,
UCLAtl

I just bought new tires for my stock just to decide to buy new rims....somebody please kick me!! Like I said the tires are brand spanking new and sharp looking. I recommend them highly. Look at the specs in the garage sale.

i've got the stock 16's and i just put on Toyo TPT tires. they are amazing, they grip the road really well and they never squeel when you make turns like the stock tires... i highly recommend.

I have Goodyear Eagle gt+4 tires sized p225/55r16v and like them a lot due to its heavy build......6 plies on tread and 2 plies on sidewall. I prefer heavy and durable tires for my 16 in wheel.
I work for Just Tires in Arcadia,CA located specifically in the Sta Anita Mall parking lot just behind Macy's and if any member of this site is in need of some tires/wheels, I'd be glad to be of help........626-446-9887or better yet, just come.
just look for mel and mention acuratl.com as a reference.

So the best size is 225/55/16? Is that the closest match to our stock diameter?

Thanks! I'll check those tires out. What do you guys think about Pirellis? Dunlops? Kumho? I had Nitto's on my old Integra and hated them... they had weak sidewalls and blew out when my car would camber out a little...

225/55 is the closest dimentional match to 205/60, except width of course. To check out the best tires, go to www.tirerack.com search for that size and check out customer reviews. I do that every time I get tires and has never been disapointed by suggestions I get.

Good luck!

what's the offset for the stock 16" rims? +55? for those of you who've upgraded to wider 225/55/16 tires, no rubbing on the inside of the wheelwell when you're making turns?

anyone have 225/50/16? 112.5mm vs 123mm stock. less sidewall/reduction in height from the ground and to me it makes the wheels look bigger but how much ride quality are u sacrificing? if not too much then i'd like to go for that.

and can someone tell me if getting a wider tire affects speedo? i'm guessing u only get a difference if upgrading to bigger wheels/tires.

It's not the width of the tire but the height (rolling diameter) that will affect your speedo. 225/50 is a shorter tire which will make your speedo read faster than your actual speed.

thanks Lawaia...yeah i guess i don't really wanna be messing around with that. i'll stick to 225/55

but for people who've upgraded to wider tires, any rubbing when turning especially sharp turns?

dee diddy,
On my Goodyear Eagle GT+4 P225/55R16, no rubbing on front and rear tires.
Of course wider tires get the benefit of tremendous traction at the cost of gas mileage ..........It is a tradeoff that I can accept happily.
