Question on bent wheels

I've been searching the forum for posts on bent wheels, and don't see anything quite answering my question.

I had a slight shimmy, and I was told by the dealer that I had 2 bent wheels. He said they could fix them for either $100 or $150 each, I don't recall precisely. I think he was sending them out to a specialty shop.

I just hit a major pothole, and I must have badly bent another one, as it is shimmying much worse, and I am losing air in one tire. Depending on whether this was one of the other two that were already bent, I may now have 3 bent wheels, so I am looking at $300-$450 to get all 3 fixed.

I looked up new wheels, and see that on the lower end, I could get new rims for $110 from Tire Rack. My question is whether it is better for me to get the stock rims fixed, or buy new wheels. I could get 4 new wheels for <500, and I am probably close to $500 to get 3 of them fixed.

Would the quality of the wheels at the lower end of the price spectrum be inferior to the stock wheels at all? Or would a $110 wheel be as strong/durable as the stock ones?

Of course, having already bent 2 stock rims before this, i'm not sure they're that durable!

Thanks for any advice,

Glen

You get what you pay for. Im sure you could find a used stock set for around 300 bucks. Or try to find your own shop that actually fixes bent wheels. I'm looking at 150 a rim to fix my bends, clean any curbage, and powder coat the wheels any color.

I just put four new tires on my TL all to find out I have a bent wheel! I would suggest you keep shopping because there is a place where I live (Nashville, TN) that will do it for $75 each wheel.

My question is, if I cant feel it should I even worry about it? The tire folks said that it would wear the tire unevenly but I just question how bad???

Any thoughts???

If you can't hear it or feel it and the tire/wheel balances fine, then I wouldn't worry about it.
