Proper tire inflation Michelin P235//45 R17 on 2007 TL
I've been inflating to 33/32 cold pressure per specs, noticed recently that the front left tire had excessive wear on the outside - most of the tread is gone. I took it in for balancing, they told me both front tires are wearing inside and out, but that the car is balanced fine. They said my tires are underinflated and that is causing the problem. They increased the pressure to 40/39 which is giving me a shockingly bumpy ride - I think it is too high. This happened once before when I took the car in for service to a different shop - they gave it back to me with 42/42, I reduced it back to 33/32.
Acura sales told me to inflate to 33/32 cold - that is also what is printed in the manual and inside the door. Is that correct, or are these tire shops right - that the pressure should be >= 40 lb? If 33/32 is correct and underinflation is not causing the tire wear then what else could it be? I only have 21K miles on the car, interested in your thoughts.
Thanks~

Owners Manual and Door Jam are correct for stock tire size.
You may have an alignment problem. Seems to me the 3G to is finicky with alignment and senstive to the toe being a little off.
39/40 is pretty hitgh. I usually run 3 - 4 lbs over the recommended pressure.
Also, use a decent tire pressure guage; don't only rely on the TMPS, it may be off a little.

With the proper alignment, you should be able to run anywhere from 32 psi to 40 psi with no wear issues.
I also run above-recommended tire pressures, either 36F/33R or 37F/34R, as the car feels more responsive there than at stock pressures; my OEM Michelins were at 48K+ miles, worn evenly and still had 5K+ mile wear left on them when they were replaced.

If the tires have been rotated, the wear could be coming from the back before being switched to the front. Best to start with an alignment and hope it's done correctly, then maintain tire pressure at the suggested cold pressure indicated on the door jam.
Have the alignment done before installing new tires.

Sorry - meant to say that we took it for alignment (not balancing) - the shop said it was already in perfect alignment, and did not charge for any work.
This happened once before - it felt like the tire was wobbling in the front after I hit a curb - but a different shop said the alignment was fine then too. I'm not sure why they are saying it is fine - when it does not feel fine to me - not sure what to ask them to do/look for under these circumstances. <sigh>

Did they give you a print out showing the spec vs the actual alignment measurement? If so, can you post it?

OE Michelin tires on the car? Picture of the tire tread? As asked above, copy of alignment printout?
As the car does have a TPMS, that in itself would not allow the tires to operate with abnormally low air pressure without issuing an alert, but they can still be run with lower then recommended pressures and that may cause some edge wear, inner and outer. Are the edges smooth or are they rough or feathered as you run your hand back and forth over the tread?
