Pot hole... OF DEATH!

my camara is acting up, but there is a pot hole a few blocks near by girlfriends house, it could be the MOTHER of all pot holes..... it's like the size of a tube..... I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS THING BECAME TO BE..... but it's there..... and the thing is, it's right after a speed bump.... I saw a 4x4 be ballsy and run the speed bump, but got raped by the pot hole...... i would't hate winter that much if it weren't for the pot holes.....

But I have a question, I am about to purchase some RonJon legends type III staggered... 20's in the back and 19 in the front, the 20's have a 3" lip and the 19's have about 2" lip.... i am having second thoughts..... does anyone recomend having deep dish rims in such a hostel enviorment?..... can deep dish handle pot holes?

I heard something about some rims having a step lip and supposedly that increases rigidity which seems like a plus in a volatile environment where you're dodging potholes, speedbumps, and crazy truckers.

^I heard that too, but I would find a way around it. Is there another way in or out?

Part of the problem here is that you're using 19" rims on a car that was only designed to accommodate 17" or 18" wheels. If you were to look back at all these type of complaints here on AZine over the years, you'd see that this type of problem is most common from those with 19 and 20" wheels. The bigger the rim, the greater the risk of damage from ANY pothole or road imperfection.

Good luck man.........

one wheel will hit a pothole slightly different in two different instances at the same speed and a slightly different angle, and that might make the difference between bending it or not. Almost like hitting the wheel right between the eyes.

But from what i was told by my engineers, the wheel with a flat face will be strong, but will crack before bending when the limit is reached since there is so much support in the lip, while a deep lip will have a little flex in it which will rebound after a strong hit. However if the hit is hard enough, the lip will not revert back to shape. So either way, there will be some sort of damage with a major hit on a pothole.

Having the front wheels a 19" while the rear wheels are a 20" will help you tho, I've never heard or experienced bending a back wheel while the front wheel is unscaved. the 35 series tires in the front will help alot compared to a 30 series suggested for a 20'. 245/35/19 tires on a 19' x 8.0" will ride fairly comfortable since the tire is not being stretched and there is more rubber and air pressure directly underneath the rim's edge.

there are a few factors involved - tire width, rim size & construction, and suspension. All the things modders like to do: low profile tires, large rims, stiff suspension lead to a tight but harsh ride that is more susceptible to all road irregularities (i.e. potholes & bumps). It is possible to compensate for large rims by using wider tires or a softer suspension. Wider tires would be the best line of defense though.

True story. You learn to take different routes to your destination. It comes with the territory of driving with a lowered you even get use to hearing things scrape as you go over speed bumps or bad driving conditions.

it doesnt matter the size or if deep dish wheels can handle a pot hole.. its who made them... get forged wheels which are less prone to cracking. My g35 sedan had a set of HRE's with 3 inch front and 5 inch rear lip and i rolled over pot holes all day. Nothing happened except a miniscule bend in the front.

Just lift up both feet off the floor when your about to hit the pothole "it will help lighten the damage psychologically" lol....

first rule of running over potholes...don't hit the brakes. it'll put more pressure on the wheels and increase the chance of damaging the rim.
