Pilot Sport 2 review

I searched for a ny good threads on the PS2's here but couldn't find any.
I don't own a TL(I have a 2003 6sp 330i), but my roomate has a 2004 TL. He finally got sick and tired of his crappy EL42's and finally decided to upgrade his tires at only 8000 miles. He originally wanted Pilot sport A/S or Nero M+S, but since he NEVER drives in snow I convinced him to slap on the pilot sport 2 's on his stocks rims. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I used to poke fun at the "roll" his car had in the corners and how soft the "on-center" feel was. The PS2's transformed his car. I took it pretty hard around a number of corners and these tires don't let up. It even does a pretty good job of masking the TL's understeer. For anyone sitting on the fence on tires and not planning on driving on snow, dump your all-seasons and get a hot summer tire like the PS2's.

That's good news. I have set of the PS2's mounted on 18" wheels sitting on my garage floor waiting for the weather to break so that I can swap out the OE's. Sounds like I'm gonna have some fun!!

Sounds like a great tire, I kinda regret not buying them, but averaging 32k miles/year pushed me to the cheaper Falken st-115s.

will tires like the PS2 still handle well enough in rain? I ask because even though it doesnt snow here, it still rains quite a bit (especially in norcal).

Soljc -- don't feel too bad, I don't think you would have wanted Summer tires all year round!

A good Summer tire will outhandle an All-season tire in pretty much every type of condition (including rain) except snow or if the temp drops below 30 deg F.

FWIW my co-worker put them on his BMW M5 a year ago and said they are the best tires he's ever owned.

I'm planning on trying Michelin PS2s when i finally get some new wheels. I've ran Bridgestone S02s & S03s on my couple of cars and those are outstanding tires, grip and handling is amazing. I figure i'll give PS2s a try since i've heard they are on par with S03s.

I've got Dunlop Wintersport M3s on now, but even 16k miles of summer driving might have my spending $900 every summer for the PS2s.

ps2's are widely know as the best high performance tire available...

but they are very expensive, and you wont get more than 20k out of them

Car & Driver magazine's annual performance shoot-out was dominated by Michelin as tuners of five of the top six Open Class finishers chose Michelin® Pilot® Sport tires and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. Cars shod with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires also dominated the Sedan class at the Car & Driver shoot-out, taking the top three spots and six of the top seven.

Car & Driver wasn't alone in recognizing the outstanding performance of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ultra high performance tires.

EuroTuner magazine's recent Performance Tire shoot-out compared the latest performance tires from a dozen makers in ten different tests using a stock car and a pair of Turner Motorsports drivers. The result, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tire topped the overall EuroTuner/Tire Rack ranking, scoring a healthy 14 points more than the nearest competitor.

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires have also been chosen as the original equipment fitments on such high-performance vehicles as Porsche GT2 and Porsche GT3, Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren and the BMW Alpina Z8.

European Car may have summed it up best; "Our love affair with Michelin's Pilot Sports just got hotter with the release of the PS2...the PS2 just does everything better...This is one of the best all-around performance tires currently available and will make an immediate and noticeable handling difference to any car."

a couple previous member of the board had them...i dont think they are still here though..

The only downside to these tires (besides the price) is the low tread wear rating, its 220 I believe... the Falken Azenis ST-115s have a tread rating of 360 (and cheaper)
