OK im sick of people telling me that 19s will bend easy. OK thats all fun and tru perhaps if you lived in the city, rite? How about those guys in the suburbs where the roads aren't bad....
Heres the question... Those with 19s, how many times have you bent a rim since you had them. And do you live in the city or not.

(Hehehehe), it's me.... again... and I'm going to tell you (again) how much I like my wheels... Nah, I'm just kiddin'.... you've heard enough already from me... but I just wanted to be part of this "tread." If you are in the suburbs... You'll be fine... It's like I said, you WILL get real familar with all the potholes in your area... They are the first set of 19s I've ever own... I used to drive a big Dodge truck... and I didn't care at all about bumps and holes... (sometimes, I didn't care about sidewalks too... LOL). Then again, keep in mind... mine ARE forge (=stronger). There has been times... where I hit some hole so hard, I pulled into the nearest gas station to check....

Also, is300eater im sick of hearing your comments.. cuz you are nothing but a tease with that small picture in your sig!!! I wanna see more pics.. your car looks hott!!!
I have 18''s and bent the front right rim twice. Once I hit a HUGE pothole in Jersey going to a meet. The second time my friend borrowed my car to go to JFK and was most likely driving like a manaic. The two times they bent was because of excessive hits though.....i drive into manhattan once in a while and am careful when i am driving. I have been thinking of getting 19''s, but am worried for this reason, because it will be even less tire than i have now :wow:

Cant go through my car wash anyways... i just went there to find out my car doesnt fit with the drop and bodykit.. its ok, i like hand washing in 30 degree weather anyways.
I have had my 19's for about 5 months and so far have NEVER bent a single rim. Im running 235 35 r19 on a 19x7.5inch rim w/+50 offset. Lowered on H&R OE sport.
I live in San Jose, CA and we have our share of potholes. I often drive up to SF and they are pot hole CENTRAL. Here are the main reasons I think rims get bent:
1. your tire is not wide enough to cover the rim properly. (ex. 235 35 r 19 on a 8 inch wide rim) In this case if you look at your tire from directly above you will see that your rim's edge shoots out a little further. thus giving it a greater chance of bending.
2. Your car is butterflying too much. the more it butterfly's the closer the inside lip is to the ground and thus potholes will bend your rim easier.
3. Improper tire inflation. Unlike our stock tires my 235 35 r19's require a PSI of atleast 38.
These are not all the factors but they are the ones i experienced. I had a 98 prelude before w/ 225 40 r 18 and the rim was 7.5 inches wide also. I didnt know it at the time but the tire was undersized. on a 7.5 inch rim you need atleast a 235 tire. my car was also pretty low and had a big time butterfly problem. After driving around for only 4 months i bent a rim. These are the same size potholes im running into now with my 19's on a heavier car and no problems on my tl. not to mention my 19's have a lower profile.

...and another thing... what does "butterfly" mean? I kinda have an idea... someone vaguely brought it up at the meet last month... but I wasn't paying enough attention... And what can I do to prevent that from happening? I have Neuspeed springs BTW (1.75 lower front and back).
(oh *****in' with this reply... I became an "insane poster"!!!)

If your looking at your car from the rear and you see your two rear tires: NORMAL (not lowered)-----> l l
When tires "BUTTERFLY"-----------> / \
Tires butterflying also causes premature wear on the inside of the tire.
Hey guys, it seems like the 19 inch rims are more trouble in the long run. But i have seen them on TL-S and they look so awsome. What would be an nice offset if i was to go with an 19x8 but i want it to be a little shy of flush with the fender? And does it matter if it was in the front or the back?

On a 8 inch rim the ideal tire size would be 245's but your right i dont think it would fit perfectly. I was about to go 245's but i didnt want to risk rubbing and having to cut plastics in my fender. Your offset has alot to do with it too, hopefully its +50 or higher.

Please keep me informed, cuz thats the exact setup im going with... 19x8 with a 51offset!!
IS300eater: You should be just fine, your offset is good. Rims are .5 inches too wide to be funtional on our cars but that ok.
CrazyAcura: Your setup sounds like IS300's you should be ok as long as your rubbers are no large then 235 35 r 19. Just be VERY careful on potholes because even with 235's, your 8 inch wide rim is made to fit a 245 perfect thus 235 might be slightly skimpy and lip of rim will stick out futher then the tire. If your car "butterfly's" then i would watch the inner lip, thats how i bent my old rims. I had 225's on a 7.5 inch rim, should have been 235 and it was butterflying.

rubber for an Acura. You don't want that muscle car tire buldge.
235/35-19 is almost exact same size diameter as stock too.

I am gonna higher the car a little to see if it corrects my camber a little. Also I just got my alignment done yesterday for the first time in 1 year do you think that may have been a factor in my tire wear.sorry for all the questions

Hey Crzy Acura which rims did you decide on??? I wanted to go 19x8 as well but the rim I wanted is only +45 offset and I don't think I want any trouble w/ anything rubbing!! because I want to slam it too!!! From all the posts on 19" rims and people saying if they rubbed or not, it does seem like a 19x8 W/ +50 to +55 offset is the best period to not rub but if someone wants to try 245-35 tires, the worst that should happen is you should have to trim that plastic tab in the back!!! But then again 245-35 would slow the car down 4 sure. It's true, 2 much rubber for acura's.
Also slammed99TL your alignment will definately help but you can also buy the camber kit sold here to correct most of your camber problem, that would help a lot
