Question Painted Wheels

If anyone has done this or is a professional painter your imput would be highly appreciated!

1. Would powder coating be the best when painting over chrome wheels?
a. If powder coating isn't an option what is the next best way?

2. The maintenance ( how hard is it to upkeep painted wheels)?

I had my rims painted. The powder coating people said they wouldn’t be able to get the line where the black powder coat meets the polished lip perfect.

Powder coating is always better than paint because it is thicker than paint. It is less susceptible to chipping.

So far I haven’t had any problems with my painted rims. They still look perfect. But if you can get them powder coated go with that.

Here are some pics of my car.

I thought that powder coating was the better route to go. I believe I'm in the same situation that you were in. After talking to a shop it looks like I have to choose a regular paint job. Your wheels does look great. How long have you had them since they were painted and was there any special coating applied to help protect the paint?

Thanx for your post

I have had them for about year now and there is no clear coat to protect the paint. My friend owns the shop that did it and he used a real expensive paint that’s from Germany.

Can you paint the 18" Acura wheels? For instance, I have the 04 gunmetals...could I have them painted to match the color of the silver sparkles? How much would this cost? Would the finish be as durable?

It's nice to have good friends. I can only hope and prey that I can get that kind of service. I'd hate to see them peel.

What do you mean when you say silver sparkles?

Well if you could get a hold of the paint I am sure you could have them painted. Find out who makes the paint for that wheel. Try asking your dealer.

Thanks, but nevermind...I'm probably getting the wheels replaced with the 05 Silver Sparkles under warranty. Too many problems with the Gunmetals...
