Overwhelmed (help)

I need some help finding tires for what I want.

O.K. Well a little background info. On my previous cars I have never strayed from OEM tires...So I'm a total tire NEWBIE. But with these crap tires that Acura puts on I can't take it anymore. I've searched the fourms but I'm overwhelmed by all the brands, sizes, etc.

This is what I want:

I live in Arizona so I'm looking for a strict dry performance tire...If in cant handle worth crap in wet I really don't care, b/c it only rains 2 a year.

I want something that will perform much better than the OEM tires but I don't want to sacrifice quick wear and have to replace them every 10k miles.

the most I want to spend is max $250

Please give me tire suggestions and where I should go to get them...Thanks in advance

Assuming you have a TLP, 16" tires...

The only one that I can think of that would meet your $250 requirement is the Kumho Ecsta 711 $56 each for 225/50/16

Well then, that opens up a whole lot of options..

for 22545/17 each tire cost
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S = $200
Bridgestone S-03 = $160
Bridgestone RE730 = $145
Toyo Proxes T1-S = $160
Dunop SP Sport 9000 = $130

My 2 cents are the Michelins first followed closely by the S-03's. Those are good prices. I usually see the Michelins for $230-240/tire and the S-03's for $180-190.

Michelin pilot sport will be the best tire I think if you ask me and Dunlop sport 9000 will be the best for the money.

Kumho will do good too but it make a lot of noise after 5k-6k, that what I have now.

Michelins will have the longest life with a treadwear of 400
The S-03 last the shortest(220), but are rated better for handling.. And the RE730 is in the middle(300)
Of course driving conditions, and driving style will contribute to the wear as well..

I recommend you check out tirerack,
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirebran.htm

you can read on each tire, find specs, pricing, and reviews of people who've bought them.

bug230, you can also look at
http://www.1010tires.com/tiresearch.asp

for more info. Key in your tire size (stock= 215/50/17, although 225/45/17 will fit too!). The Uniform Tire Quality Grading (UTQG) section will give you an idea of the tires treadwear. Hope this helps.

Question sport pilot question

Gotta question about the Sport Pilots:

I heard that they're only good to about 1/2 the tread life then the grip falls apart. Is this true? I was talking to a "tire guru" at the Benz dealer and he told me the Sport Pilots lose it at around 1/2 treads. (My bro's got a C32 AMG and needed snows!)

Save yourself some money and grab the Sumitomo HTR+. I just bought them and they're worth every penny. Better traction and a lot quieter than the stocks. And just in case you don't believe me, check out the reviews on tirerack.com. I got mine in stock size 215/50/17. Others in this forum have put on 225/45/17 on stock type-s rims.
