Is it ok to run a staggered set up on a FWD car????
I know on this forum it may sound like a dumb question, but I have no experience with FF tuning. Is is possible to put a staggered set up on a 2006 TL with no rubbing. I have seen it once or twice on the short time I have been on the forum, but it seems like going with a non staggered set up is way more popular. Is there an issue with staggered set ups on front wheel drive cars???. I have had staggered and non staggered in the past, and I have to say I like the staggered way more

A non staggred is naturally the most popular simply because the tires/wheels can be rotated at least front to back even if directional. I have staggered on one of my cars, but it's RWD, and have always liked the look of the wider tires in the rear, but on our FWD TL 245/45-17 was the choice.
There's no reason a larger wheel/tire can't be placed on the back to achieve the look you desire, and as long as the offset is correct and tire size isn't enormous, it won't rub.
Search for offset, wheel, tire sizing.

How are you liking those TSW Snettertons?? I saw your Lexus had 20" Snettertons on a staggered setup on Club Lexus. I was planning on getting those for the TL

Three Wheelin'
Well staggered on fwd.... It says "I dont know what end my drive wheels are on!" to me. That said, different widths shouldn't be a big deal. If you want different diameter as well, it could mess with your ABS and VDC controls. It'll see different rotational speeds on the rear wheels compared to the front than it expects. It may or may not be able to compensate but its something to be aware of.

I didn't notice much of a difference. An 8.5/9.5 set-up allows you to run the same size tire front and back. You can run a 245/35-19 and get the stagger without losing drivability.

07 TL type S NBP!
I believe it will increase understeer bc you are gonna have extra traction in the rear w/o power to them. Kinda bad since FWD cars already have understeer issues. Just my opinion though

all work and no play
you will see people argue both sides of the topic, much like the auto/manual topic. Bottom line is this...its your car if you think it looks good, do it. Yes they will fit and any affect on steering is negligable

here is the deal
do you like the look?
high end wheel manufacturers offer "high disk"; "medium disk"; "low disk" design... High Disk (factory brembo clear, 6 piston brake kit) will have the most room behind the spokes for big brakes, thus reducing the backspace, and result in a small lip, medium disk (aftermarket bbk, such as rotora, stoptech, endless, wilwood, project mu, brembo gran turismo....) have both the lip and decent brake clearance, low disk offer the least amount of backspace or brake clearance and allow you to have massive lips...
Here is an example of what I mean
18x8.5 +40 High Disk Front 1" Lip
18x8.5 +40 Low Disk Clear 3" Lip
^^^^
"looks" staggered... but it sure is not, this is what fwd car enthusiasts should be doing, but it is much cheaper to just get a wider wheel
where did I gather this conclusion (blame rodney)
jenn you know this my fav pic of your ride (20x9.5 all around DAMN is all needs be said)

I say DO IT. I chickened out and did normal 18s. Looks nice and all. I can rotate. But they are borrrring! I thought I'd be saving tires but I am eating right through a pair every year anyways! Just shell a bit extra and the look is worth it!!
My next setup is going to be staggered 19s, I'm obsessed with the Varianza T1s.

Seriously...if you're worried about potholes, 245/35-19 all around are plenty! As long as the rim is between 8.5 to 9.5 in width. If that's not enough for a person to drive with they might want to get a truck!

+40 offset. I could have run 245/35-19 all around, but I have 235/35-19 up front. I will probably switch to 245's up front next time. I should probably say my wheels won't fit so I can stay original, lol haha....but they will!
