offset confusion???

Hey all,

After reading many posting on here about offset, I thought I knew it all. I wanted to get some 18's for my ride. My ride is lower with Eibach prokit. So I went into the tire place asking them if they had any rims with a minimum of +48mm offset to ensure the wheels won't rub. The guy at the shop(Les Schwab) told me he has put many rims on a tl with only a +43 and that there is no rubbing at all. I'm confused now. Is he jerking me around? can this be true?

Does he know you are lowered with Eibachs?
Take it from us, man. Learn from our mistakes.

i have the prokits on my 2002 tl-s and i sometimes rub with 18x7.5, +42mm offset wheels with 225/40 tires. say you are getting similar 18x7.5s, that offset is only 1mm better (ie, deeper) than mine and i don't think that is enough. now if you are getting 8" wide rims, no way they will fit without rubbing. always make sure to get the rim width when asking for offsets!

Everyone,

I told them our stock is at +55 and the guy told me that the reason why they have high offset so that the wheels will fit under the wheel well. They know I have eibach. I had it done there. They guarantee me it will fit. So let just say I put it on and it rub. Do I get my money back?

Talk to the main man, the manager. Maybe even get it in writing.

They'll probably just replace it with a higher offset, but that's just a waste of time. You should just pick a higher offset yourself instead of going back an forth. Are you getting 7.5 or 8 width rims?

i told you that i rub on hard turns mainly and 1mm will not make a big difference...however, i am camber corrected in the rear which is probably why i rub some. whether you get your money back, you will have to talk to them extensively so everyone is clear what is going to happen. another thing is to find out what other offsets are available for that wheel...otherwise, you might have to choose another wheel.

but yeah, what rim width are you getting?!?!?!?

Guys,

I went back to Les today and another guy told me the last guy I talked does not know anything. He was wrong. This guy told me if I get 18x7, I can go w/ +45 or 1x7.5 I will need to go w/ +48min. So I guess we are right. The only rims they pointed me to was the lowenhard and racinghart. I don't have that much bling to spend $500/rim. Any recommendation? I basically want either a mesh or five star rims, rivets, and nice polished LIPS.

thx

You can try the 5 Zigen Heidfeld if you like rivets and mesh look.
