New wheels and the tire pressure monitoring system
If one were to replace the stock wheels of a 2007 TL-S, what happens with the tire pressure monitoring system? Do you need to buy wheels that have the monitoring unit inside the wheel or is the original tire pressure unit on the stock wheels transferred to the new wheels? I'm a complete idiot on the tire pressure monitoring system. What powers the unit inside the tire?...batteries? If batteries, do they need to be replaced?
Thanks for any help.

I believe that you would just transfer the tire modules into the new wheels. On my 06 they are a separate part, so you could do that. Don't know what powers it, must be a battery because there are no wires.

The sensors are part of the valve stem assembly.
Fo most aftermarket wheels, you can just unscrew the sensor from the valve stem and reinstall the tpms on the new wheels. They're cheap relatively, you can get a new set from a discount Acura Dealer like hondacuraworld.com for about $150. They don't have to be "registered" by the dealer, just plug em into the new wheels abd roll.
It 's well worth the investment in a new set to be able to bounce back and forth between your stock wheels and and your new ones. This way you don;t have to take down your stockers. See the sensor below.
If you order 2 piece wheels (like Volk Racing GT series), they have a special valve stem on the inner face of the rim. You can't use the sensors in the traditional way.
Call Discount Tire Direct and order the TPMS banding and brackets (about $43 delivered), and you mount the sensors on the to inner whell barrel (seen below).

if one was to decide not to install TPMS on their aftermarket wheels willt he tire pressure display just read N/A? Are TPMS required for 07's due to law, regulations, functionality, etc?
Thanks!

I use www.acuraoemparts.com to get the PN's, then I call Tim at HAW and order directly.
There are slightly better prices out there (hondapartsdeals), but Tim's got the best service in town...and to me that's worth the extra buck or so to know I will never have a problem.
