New wheel on tirerack for the Type S

Hey all, I was checking tirerack again for a decent 18x8 for my Type S and found this. They are awfully cheap, $138 each. Any thoughts?

I think it looks nice and clean but I think it may look kinda small on the car especially with no lip. Good find though.

not bad... they remind me of the ASA ST4 (I believe they're discontinued on tirerack.com)

and the TSW Bremmas (cheapest I've seen is on discounttires.com)

But, I think they look better, definitely a good wheel for the TL/TL-S

7/20/2007 for the 18's -- 138 a piece
6/25/2007 for the 19's -- 186 a piece

not bad at all though... i may invest in a set of 19inch ones!

In the photo they say they are silver, but in the picture they look more gun metal. I like the darker color wit hthe polished lip... maybe when they finally have them, we will know more.

Looks like a lot of places for brake and road dust to gather- that just me
Are all those bolts real or fake caps or just wind resistance?

Sorry, but that site lists all the same wheels for every 04-07 TL. This means they are not taking into consideration the extra space required for larger Brembo calipers of the Type-S and all other 6MT models. Buying wheels from this place if you have the Brembo front brakes would be a crap-shoot at best...

I know they have the option to select 6spd. But can you explain to me why all the wheels are exactly the same no matter what you select (unless they changed something in the last two hours)?

My thought exactly. Look nice, but I wouldn't want to be the one washing them every week.

Oops that was supposed to read 2006 6sp since they don't have an option for Type S.

It's not too bad. I have the 19's, clean up easy and I can get my mitt all the way inside the wheel, so my wheels are always clean inside-out.

Personally, I think this style wheel flows great with the car, and I always get compliments on them, including the occasional AMG look-a-like. Even a lady in a CLS550 said they looked like AMG wheels, but that she loved them on the car....that was at the car wash last week....

Here ya go, just for some persauasion...

mmm....nice and clean inside too (disregard the bumper damage...gotta get that fixed....)

You guys should also keep in mind that wheels you find for the 05+ Subaru Sti will almost certainly fit our 6MT or Type-S front brakes. The 05+ Sti is 5x114.3, +45, 67.1mm center bore, and has the same Brembo front calipers. This is really cool because a lot of nice "sport" style aftermarket wheels are made specifically for the Sti...

Here are some of the highlights I found:

Alt 932 "rush" (17" & 18"):

Gram-light 57Maximum (17" 18"):

Gram-light 57Optimise (18"):

Gram-light 57F (18" Nismo Altima spec only):

Wed Sport SA-90 (17"):

Kosei K3 (18")

And here is a link to all 57 wheels on tirerack.com for the 05+ Subaru Sti:

center bore is smaller on the STI so be careful....

Unless you get one big enough to clear the TL's center bore, then get a hubcentric ring, they will not work.

TL Center Bore is 64.1

STi Center Bore is 56mm

Tirerack does not show the center bore of their wheels on the site, and they are not idiots. The wheels they list for an STi will fit an STi, but probably not a TL if it's not listed for the TL. Chances are the center bore for the aftermarket STi wheels is 60MM or so with a 4MM hubcentric ring....

One correction for my post above:

The OEM Sti wheels have a hub-bore of 56.1mm. The TL uses 64.1mm hub-bore. Now most aftermarket wheels are not hub-centric and do have an over sized hub-bore. Therefore it should not be a problem. But if the wheels do in fact have an Sti specific bore, you can always get them machined out to 64.1mm for a perfect fit at a minimal cost...

agreed, but again, in this case, with wheels that fit the STi and not the TL, chances are that the hub bore is bigger than the STi and smaller than the TL.

As for getting them machined, space can sometimes become an issue, granted the extra 5-10 mm is not much, some wheels may not have enough room to machine them out that much more....
