Needed:All season tires under 130.00--suggestions ?

Hi guys. I am coming to the end of the road on my Toyo Proxies. I got about 28,000 miles out of them and could probably get a few thousand more. They have performed well but after calling STS the guy told me they are now 183.00 !!
I bought them for 115.00 less than 2 years ago. He said he would bring it down to 154.00 but still...that seems like a lot to me. Any recommendations ? I know I can just look on tirerack but that requires me getting someone to install them and lugging them to somewhere to have them installed. (which would require 2 trips to a garage or getting someone to help) I would prefer to get it all done in one visit to a shop.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

If cost is serious consideration, look at the Falken Ziex 912's.

STS Tire always quotes retail list price. I'll bet you can do better elsewhere.

I purchased Continental's from tirerack - happy with the tire and the vendor. Had 'em shipped direct to a local garage that did the install. Tirerack has a warehouse in Delaware - standard delivery is usually next day to NE PA (I'm in the Lehigh Valley), and you save state tax which more than offsets the shipping charge.

I would AVOID Avon M550 A/S's. I bought them from Tirerack to replace the OEM EL42's, they were great in the dry, good in the wet, good ride, fair in the snow BUT after ~15K miles the amount of noise they generate is very high. They are really loud on highway driving.

thanks guys. I am looking hard at the eagle F1 all season....140 x4 and a 50 rebate.
thats about 128 a tire. Not too bad. add another 65 for tire protection. I never thought to have them shipped to a local shop. Is that fairly common ?

Toyo Proxes 4 are still $115 from Edge Racing . Also, four tires will fit in the car; in fact, four wheels and tires, all separate, will fit in the car.

General Exclaim UHP's are technically an all-season tire (M+S rated), and are very highly rated. You can get them for around $100.

I'm running Yoko Avid W4S's and I'm extremely pleased with them thus far. Excellent wet traction and very good dry performance. And since they have a square profile sidewall, they measure wider than most...so they fillout the wheelwell nicely and have a nice rim protector. 245/40/18s are $146 from Tire Rack...but worth the extra $ IMO.

^^^^ I'm running the W4S's on my stock 17's. I've had them for about 10K miles and all I have to say is these are a GREAT SET OF TIRES for the price! Very happy with the performance and would certainly buy again. And like the last guy said, these tires measure wide so it looks great inside wheel well and extremely wide from the back!

So wide that I've had people ask me if im running a staggard setup!!

I got them for $115/each from tire rack.

The WS4's look good but numerous people on tire rack say they absolutely suck in the snow. I live in a very snowy area so these wont work for me. May have to go with the Toyo proxes 4's or the Eagle F1

I live in Boston bro, and believe me when I tell you we get our fair share of snow here! I've had these tires all winter and I really don't have many complaints. Especially if your an experienced/carefull driver. Not saying you would, but its probably not the smartest thing to test the limits of these tires on a snowy/icy conditions.

Anyways, I dont think you'll go wrong with these tires, even in snowy weather.. but thats just my oppinion.

Thanks man. I would never test the limits of the tire in ice or snow but I live on a snow covered mountain and I really do need the traction just to get home.

I don't know, but you can check the user reviews on Tire Rack. Off the top of my head, I'd say no AS tire will be good in the snow that you describe (snow covered mountain). But if the Toyo's worked, I'd just get another set.

Baah!!!! I would avoid Goodyear eagles....on a TL meet this dude wanted to drive my ride n feel the shocks and tires....took a cloverleaf at 60mph and my falken's squeaked like a mofo but stuck nice.....and I did the same to his car and his eagles drifted at 55mph.....and I said I got lucky as I was about to buy the eagles as well.....

I would recommend falken re912....104$ a piece at edgeracing for 18's....they performed awesome in snow and hail as well.....

There seems to be about 500 different eagle tires....are you referring to the Eagle F1 all seasons ?

also just did a read up on the road test of the eagle F1's on tirerack...seems it outperformed almost every other all season tire on the track.

If you want to spend a little more, the Pirelli Nero M+S is a great tire.

I'd go with the avid V4s. 129 at tirerack notice how they cost more than the w4s? that's because they have a UTQG of 500!

The V4S are being phased out...to be replaced by the W4S. And the W4S has a higher speed rating.

Hearsay....and If you consistently go fast enough to require a higher speed rating then you should be less concerned with the price of tires and more the price of gas.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Position is a better all around tire than the F1. The F1 is a bit better in the snow, but both the Bridgestone and Yokohama Advan S4 are ahead of it in ratings. Read the reviews at Tire Rack and do a search on here and you'll see far too many people are having problems with the F1, such as excessive noise, balancing problems and severe cupping after very little mileage. Seems to be hit or miss with them. I'm going with the Potenzas.

Huh?

Actually, it's a fact. The W4S is being marketed by Yoko as an UHP AS to replace the V4S HP AS tire. And the treadwear rating is nearly the same...

...and if you're more concerned about the price of gas than tires, you should be driving a Honda Fit.

I'm sorry...

Hearsay: rumor.

25% more UTQG is not nearly the same.

SilverJ: I think there is an option on Tirerack that will allow you to ship the tires to a shop where you can have them mounted; saving you the two trips/aid of a friend.

Those with balancing problems are using aftermarket non-standard size wheels. The ones with cupping issues have suspension and/or alignment problems. After 13,000 miles, the noise from my F1's are negligable.

F1's

i think they were goodyear eagles F1......but he had them on stock rims.....

when my michellin exploded and i was out in the market for a new tire.....i though i wanted some tire which go thro very extensive track testing.....

well according to my lookout i ignored michellin's, bridgestone's, goodyear's.......and i leaned towards falkens, toyo, yokohama which were cheaper and i thought better......

I've had them on my car since december of 07 and I live in Boston and we get our fair share of snow up here. Prior to these i was running the factory tires. I will say the W4S's are a far superior tire compared to stock even in the snow. I'm not sure why they get such negative reviews when it comes to snow, but I have zero complaints. I'm also an experienced snow driver, but my wife is from the south and she is what i consider a novice. She's gone out in blizzard conditions and have had no issues what so ever. And if she of all people can make it through a storm in these tires, so can you.

It really comes back to driver experience too. You should know better not to drive like you would on a nice summer day, and im sure the people that have written negative comments expect that same type of performance on snowy roads. And to be honest, I dont think you'll get that type of performance from ANY tire on the market.

Like I said before, I dont want to stear you the wrong way especially if your not comfortable, this is just my opinion, but you really do get the most bang for the buck with these tires. I would certainly buy them again.

Ok guys you convinced me. I am going with the yokohama Avid W4's. 113.00 a tire is pretty sweet and I do know how to drive in the snow so I should be ok.
Boston gets probably as much as PA so I should be good. Thanks for all the suggestions guys...it really helped.

All season tires are really "three" season tires (spring, summer & fall). If you want truly all "FOUR" season tire...check out Nokian WR, they are all seaon + winter (actually certified as winter tire as well- winter tire logo).

I have these on my other car, no need to put on winter tires in winter at all.

The tire walls are a bit softer in the summer, so only cons I could see with these tires is if you drive hard & go crazy when you make that turn (in the summer), than these tires are not for you.

Thumbs up

IMO stay away from the Yokohamas. I am a tire mgr at a Toyota dealership and we have nothing but problems from the v4s. I sent 4 sets back for internal problems(pulling bad to one side) in just a few months. The Nokians are great, Toyo actually makes a great tire if you want something that is M+S rated for the snow. I had the Proxes 4 on my '05 STi and they still handled great. Toyo also makes a new Luxury touring tire that is M+S called the Versado if you want a better ride and softer sidewall.

I'm sure they're a decent tire, but I've read too many bad reviews on the Rack to take the gamble.

I just purchased the F1's two days ago, they look almost like my TripleTreds on my BMW, and if they are anything like them the noise goes away after you wear them in a little like what DMZ says.
