Need Tire Advice

Picked up a new 07 TL base AT a few weeks ago. Switched out BS EL42's for BS 960 Pole Positon,Handling was nice, but they were lound on the road surfaces I ride. I am running on BS Turanza Serenity. Quiet tire, but handling is very poor. I feel like Goldie Locks.

Is it that ultra high peformance tires are nosier by the nature of their compositon and you gotta to live with some added dB's of road noise? The Serentys are terrible. My TL rides like a cheap KIA. BTW, the reason I stayed with BS tires is that they gave me a nice discount. I saw a post that suggested that the re-designed 07 has a softer suspension than the 04-06 models(?)

This is my 2nd TL. I had an '04 & ran Pirelli Nero MS. Decent tires, got good mileage from them, but they became noisy after a while.

I remember people talking up Toyo Proxy 4's back in 05. Those seem to be a good value.

I realize that everyone has personal preferences and what is good for one is not good for someone else. No doubt this topic has been discussed ad nausium.

Still, I would appreciate any info or suggestions.

THANKS!!

They're smooth and quiet on good roads, a little mushy. They're squirrely on bumps and other road imperfection we have up here in NJ. They don't handle very well, but they're not a sport tire.

Overall I think they detract form what a TL should be about; sporty ride , but not harsh. If you want it ride like your dad's LeSabre, you may think Serenity's are fine.

Maybe you are too picky... I thought the 960AS were pretty quiet. I had Toyo Proxy4 on my 2G TL... I thought the 960AS were quieter than those... Granted, the 3G is prob quieter overall than the 2G....

Of all the Ultra High Performance All Seasontires I ran, the 960AS is probably one of the quiete ones... I think the Yokohama AVS db tires I ran might have been quieter, but those tires get scary after 20,000 miles in terms of both noise and traction.

The Continental ContiExtreme contact has great snow traction, and great dry/wet traction, tho the steering response isn't as crisp as the othre tires...

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Very good tire all around. I replaced them with 960AS on that car too. I don't know which I like better right now, becuase they seem about the same in everything. I'm just hoping I get better mileage out of the 960AS.

Toyo Proxy 4. Nice tire, but personally I don't think it handled as good as the other tires I've ran.

I suppose I just don't know what a quiet tire is, considering all my cars in the last 10 years have run nothing but ultra-high performance all-season or max performance summer tires....

I just replaced the OEM Tires (Michelin's) on my 05 TL AT-Navi. I was not happy with these tires and wanted something different.

My family is heavily in the tire business and believe it or not, they recommended the new Yokohama W4S's for the car. If you are looking for an all season nice riding good handling tire, I am finding that these new W4S's are very nice. Great ride, excellent handling and they look good. The W4S's just came on the market earlier this year. I recommend you check them out.

Yokos Advan S4

Considering tires, one of the choices are Yokos Advan S4. Are they better than the yokos advan S4?

Thanks.

Might want to take a look at the Continental ProContacts in the V series. Nice tire for the road.

Eagle F1 GS D3s rated 1st in C&D's hi-po tire comparison.

I ran them on my '06 Accord; they were quiet, smooth and stuck like glue. They also have good tread wear properties.

Nick D,

Not sure if your question was related to my post. The tires I suggest are Yokohama Avid W4s. New tire from Yokohama...not sure how it stacks up to the Yokohama Advan S4's. I will say they Avid W4s's came highly recommended by members of my family who are very deep into the Tire business. They suggested the Yokhama Avid W4s's or the Pirelli P6's, however they leaned heavily towards these new Yokes.

I just put on the Yokohama ADVAN S4s after 25,000 miles on the OEM Michelins. The difference is very noticeable - more grip, smoother ride, quieter and a more solid feel. I would definitely recommend these tires. The W4s just came out so it was hard to find any tests/reviews so it's hard to compare the two. Here's a good review of some Ultra High Performance All-season tires from tirerack: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...irePageLocQty=

I now have 150,000 miles of road mile experience on the Michelin Pilot A/S's.
I highly recommend them IMO. They give traction year round with at least 50,000 miles of tread life.

Also look at Falken Tires they have a tuner series. Look at FK-452 (road)or ZE-512 (sport). Good luck.

I have the BS RE960 Pole Position and love them. The Turanza is a good tire if you're looking for a quiet, soft touring tire, but I like the firmer ride of the 960s. I up sized to a 245/45 -- which oddly is actually the same size as the OE 235/45 Michelin (3/32nds larger sidewall). Highly rated by TireRack.

I've had Kumho ASX as well and thought they rode well, but both the local shop and TireRack suggested either the 960 or the Michelin Pilot. Local shop said the S4 wasn't as good as in wet/snow as those.

If you go to a Firestone center you SHOULD be able to get buy 3 get 1 free through the manager's discretion (being nice can go a long way!)
