Need New Tires - Question about Service Bulletin 05-050

Ok first and foremost I have done a lot of research on tires and need some help deciding between the Bridgestone Pole Positions and Yokohama ADVAN S4. From what I've read each are a good tire. Although I've read that the Pole Positions are so grippy that you can actually feel the car slow down quicker due to the rolling resistance.

I haven't read anything bad about the ADVAN S4, but have read bad stuff on other Yokohama tires.

Whichever tire I buy, they'll have to withstand some very bad roads where I live, and may need to perform in the winter.

I may purchase winter tires this October which begs the question, why not buy summer tires? Can I expect the same tread life out of summer tires?

I'd like to get around 30-40k of tread life out of whatever I buy. So would a summer tire last that long? If so, what do you suggest (maybe Yoko S.drives?). If they won't last long, what all seasons should I get? The pole positions or ADVANs?

I drive an 04 6MT, stock. Currently riding on Pirelli 240 snowsports and had Pirelli Pzero Neros as my all seasons. I liked both tires, but the tread life was poor.

SERVICE BULLETIN QUESTION

I've known about the toe in problem with the 04 suspension, but when I went to the dealer last year and brought this up to them, they said my car wasn't eligible. I'm looking at the VIN numbers on the bulletin, and think he is right, but there's no doubt that the car has the problem. The only difference is that my VIN number has the number "4" before the A in the last sequence of numbers. They show a "5" in the bulletin.

Here's the link for the bulletin:

We just put Advan S4's on a Ferarri yesterday and the wear reating was 400 which says they will wear well. Same reason .. rear toe wear.

I had my rear bump stops replaced per that TSB after going through 2 sets of rear tyiz in 9 months. After long highway trips, they looked exactly like the worn out one in the picture on the TSB. At first, they tried to get away with telling me that only applied to the original Bullshitstones and I had Falken 512's at the time which aren't known for their longivity anyway. I just gave the service advisor a dirty look without saying a word. I would have never known about this TSB if it wasn't for AcuraZine.

As for new tyiz, I've got the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S. They're terriffic!

I'm going to bring it back up with them and see if they'll do the bulletin on it. Don't really want new tires from them, credit would be nice though. It pisses me off though that they said I wasn't eligible for the work, and now 3 sets of all seasons later and a set of snow tires down the drain, they probably still won't do the work.

As for the tires, I think I'm going with the Yokos ADVAN S.4. I've compared the tirerack test results against the Pzero neros and it looks like I'm stepping up in quality and performance.

As far as the tire wear goes, it sounds like they're pretty good. Thanks JessTZN

Print out a copy of the TSB and take it with you.

A question about the Goodyear Eagles. How are they in the road noise department and how much did you have to pay?

13,000 miles and no detectable noise. I paid $151.50 each including road hazard warranty - mounted, balanced, and installed at Mavis Tire, for stock size 235/45/17.

I'd gladly buy these tires again without any hesitation whatsoever.

I have the pole's 960AS and love them. They stick a whole lot better than the crappy MX4M's and no, i do not experience that slow down affect, if anything, the car coasts much better. The only problem I have had with them is that they are very wierd when it comes to air pressure, a few PSI can really change the feel of the tires.

How so? Do you keep your tires inflated on the high side or slightly low? I'm thinking of getting the 960's as well.
