need key for wheel locks on an '01

The wife zapped a curb and flattened the right front (her fault). I bought the car at auction and didn't notice that the insert for the lug wrench to be used on the wheel lock was missing (my fault). That being said, the Acura dealer here in Atlanta says I have to deal with a McGard company in Buffalo, NY. I've been to their site and it indicates that I need a magic wheel lock number that I don't have. I just want to change the @$#&% tire!! What is the fastest way to get an insert so I can change the tire?

Where is the car? Can you drive it? If you can, go to the dealer and have them pull the wheel lock master set. There are 8 of them, each one is color coded. Just get them to tell you which one it is.

If not, see if you can pay one of the service advisors a few bucks to go to your car to determine which lock key it is.

You can get the replacement key from www.mcgard.com for $20.

I had it towed to my house. It's not drivable. I looked at McGard's site and they need a registration card number (which is probably hiding in the same place as the key). I took a digital picture of the lock in question, but the guy at parts said a picture wouldn't help. I have a suspicion I should be talking to service, not parts.

Yes, you have to talk to Acura service. They have the wheel lock key set. How far are you from the dealership? Maybe buy the service advisor lunch if he follows you to your house to check out the lock.

Worse case, get a dremel and carve out a notch in the lock. Then use an impact wrench to get it off.

If the diameter of the McGard lock is less than 19mm you can try using this.

The #13 remover fits 3/4 and 19mm. You can get these at Sears. Of course it will screw up your locks.
