Angry Need help/advice about flat tire, but can't find wheel lock key

I just got a flat tire that turned into a blown tire . Problem is I can't find the keys to the lock. Do you think the dealers keep them in stock?

TLC Total Luxury Care was willing to tow it to the nearest dealer but the dealers are closed already so what will that do? I'm so upset, was hoping to take the car in tomorrow to finish the audio upgrade install. Now I may have to call a day off to look for a key so I can replace it

A lesson learned I guess. Hope anyone can give me an insight on how to replace the lock, or if anyone knows whether the dealer keeps them in inventory

i just realize that the dealer should or else they wouldn't be able to rotate my tires now it's just losing a day and the hassle to get the key, put the donut on, buy a new tire, put that on, and wait an extra day to finish my stereo install

i ended up calling AAA to get towed to the house, first 7 miles free, then $8 per mile. total cost for tow is $80. anyone know if the dealer will give me the key for free, lend it to me or cost for a replacement?

Did you look in the trunk by the spare. This seems to be where the dealer puts the key for the wheel locks. If you feel like it run a search. This has come up before.

Don't know how long you have had your car but be nice to dealer if you don't find the key. It's to a large extent your responsibility to know where it is and to make sure you got it (sorry). Hope everything works out OK.

Why did you call AAA? Wouldnt TLC have had it towed free?

they were just gonna tow it to the nearest dealer and it was past 9pm so all were closed. didn't want my car to be left there or a storage facility.

just got back from the dealer. i emailed them a pic of the lock and was fortunate enough that a tech recognized it and they have it in stock. cost for the lock was $20. going to a tire shop to see if it can be covered by warranty. if not, then guess i'll have to buy one

haha, $20 and 5 hours wasted, lesson learned. i ended up going to Big O tires and bought yokohama. turns out that the dealer lied, what else is new, about manufacture warranty on the tires. they told me that any bridgestone dealer will check it out and determine whether it falls in the warranty but all that i called said the same thing, that the dealer info was false and to make it a valid warranty claim, i would have to have bought it from them and purchase the warranty.

what worried me is that i was the second 3rd gen TL this week that he serviced with the same problem, started out as a flat, then the tire blew hope it's not a repeat from the explorer/firestone issue

the good things that came out of this was that i learned new info about tire sizes and ratings and the only thing damaged was the tire

Glad it worked out with little pain and you learned something.
Read the warranty that came with the car for the tires. Call Bridgestone, unless things have changed there is a warranty that comes with the tire, you might have to find a factory owned store.
Please say that you purchased four Yokos, not one

Did you register your wheel lock code with their maker, McGard?

Not only should everyone who got the wheel locks do this, but also order a spare key to keep at home like I did........ONLY $10!

thx for the info, i just called and register. additional key is $14.99, additional locks are $10 each. there is no limit on how many keys you can get but there's a limit to locks, 1 per tire. shipping is free or overnight express is $16.99. if you lost you original with all the info on about the lock and key, you can still register. they'll just ask for the color code and your name and address.

Yea, thanks for the info.

WTF is up with McGard, do all TL's of the same color have the same wheel lock code???

the color code McGard asks has nothing to do with your car's color. the key itself has a color code inscribed on the key. this is what they're looking for. if you lost the key and forgot the color code then what you can do is call your nearest dealer and ask them if you can email them a pic of your lock to see if one of their techs recognizes it. then see if they have them in stock. it'll save you a trip

once you are sure of the code then order future keys from McGard to save some money
