Arrow Need help on 7 spoke rims!

I've narrowed my rim decision to a 7 spoke rim and I really like the XXR 522's but I've heard they're cheapy rims and are more prone to cracking. I love the style of that rim and have since found the Motegi MR125's. So what I'm asking is if anyone knows if Motegi makes quality rims or if anyone knows a good rim with the same style. (I like XXR's rim because it's spokes are a bit thicker, so if anyone knows of a rim identical [but quality] to XXR's, please fill me in!

Don't forget these...

MB Motorsports "Weapon". They are made by A-Tech of Japan (A-tech Eraser) and imported to the US under the MB Wheels. Very high quality cast wheel. Available at Discount Tire and several other retailers. In the US they are only sold in bronze and gunmetal.

In fact its such a nice wheel that Mugen copied it.

I just got these for my TL recently. You can get them in black too if that's the color you're looking for.

Yes I am looking for black, I like those but not the fact that the spokes come all the way out to the lip, otherwise it's a good looking rim, congrats!

On second thought, could you post a pic of yours? (If you've mounted them)

I have the MR125's. Not terribly ecstatic about them, but mostly pleased with the look. I painted them silver from the factory titanium. They seem reasonably well made, but a little on the heavy side. No issues so far while taking a beating on Pennsylvania's @#$% roads.

Whoever posted they have Enkei Imolas, I'd love to see a pic as well as that was the other one I was considering.

OP - Don't know if you mind dropping one spoke in the count, but the Konig Backbone seems to be along the same lines you're looking for.

The MB Weapons were one of my first choices when I first started shopping for wheels, but I didn't like the offsets available in order to clear the Brembo calipers so I went a different direction. It's a good looking wheel in my opinion.

I don't have them mounted on my car yet (I just got them earlier this week) because I'm going to get them sandblasted and powder coated a different color first. I did take a few pics of the wheel on my car to see what they look like though. I'll post them a littler later for you.

I should have them on my car sometime in the near future. I'll be sure to post pics when they're on. I have only seen one TL on this site with the Imola's so far. See this link.

XXR 522

Is there a discount tire by u?? U can buy them there, and get the warranty so even if they do crack they will be replaced.

The XXR's are kinda silly cause the spokes stick out past the lip of the rim. Seems they were really trying to "force" the concave look for higher offset rims. I imagine they would get beat up pretty quick.

^ Agreed. The Enkei Imola's spokes stick out past the lip slightly (approx. 1/4") but with a +40 offset and 245 series tire, there shouldn't be any fear of them getting chewed up by rocks, etc.

Yeah, it really depends on what your looking for.

17x8 = +28, +42
17x9 = +17, +27
18x8 = +30
18x9 = +38, +45-bronze only

18x8 +30 would be sweet IMO as long as they wouldn't rub. I am not interested in rolling fenders or adding camber or any of that crap. They are only $570 shipped on discounttiredirect.com right now.

Ya, screw rolling fenders, if they don't direct fit, I'm out lol.

Hmm, well since I've seen those XXR's from that angle, they are silly looking, the MB's are wearing on me a little bit, would they direct fit with an 18x8?

You may want to look through the "new wheels" thread stickied at the top of this forum. There are a few cars running +30 and they say they don't rub. I would think it would be fine with a 235/40-18. According to the discounttire web site, both 18x8 +30 and 18x9 +38 fit.

The MB's in the 18x8 +30 will fit. I did tons of research and was ready to buy them for my TL-S, but I wasn't sure if I would like the offset difference vs. the stock +45. I was concerned with rubbing like you and was not willing to do any kind of fender work, period. I have the A-Spec suspension and wanted to run a 245/40 tire too. I did a simulation of +30 with my stock wheels to see if I would like it and did not. It's totally personal preference and not for me. I liked the look of the Weapons but the offset killed it for me. I eventually started liking the Enkei Imolas more and more till I bought them. I hate the silver (or black for the matter) color for my car so I'm having them custom powder coated before they even see tires. Here are a couple pics of them out of the box. I like how much they show off the brakes!

Them Weapons look sic, I've decided to go with the gunmetal one in 18x8. I have to wait a little before I get them. Really wish they came in black though >.>

Nice! You can always get them powder coated black if you end up not liking the gunmetal finish.

I saw 17x8's on a Subaru Impreza yesterday and I still love them. Even when they are smaller. Wish I could afford wheels too, but it was hard enough talking the wife into an a-spec underspoiler kit. Time is on my side though.

Yeah once I get them I'll just leave them on the car for a little while and then decide. I'm going for a black, carbon fiber and blue theme, so the rims might be good in Gunmetal.

The Enkei Imola's on my car are:
18x8 +40 and a weight of 21.4 pounds per wheel. I'm running 245/40/18 (93 load rating) Continental Extreme Contact DW tires and have the A-Spec suspension installed. They clear the Brembo brakes fine and there is no rubbing. I had my Imola's custom powder coated black chrome and I think they look 10 times better than silver or black on my KBP TL-S.

Sorry to be a downer, but I'm personally not a fan of these style rims on the TL. I think they look kinda awkward. They look better suited on WRX's.

Lol, I was about to respond and post and then I noticed the date of the OP and that I already did.

Thanks for the update. Car looks great, UD. Though, it's little like asking "where can I get a good $8 burger?" and then telling us you went and got a $30 ribeye.

Yes it does, Justin!

I'm sorry! They're actually pretty cheap for what they are. Granted they're not XXR money, but they're not cast either.
