Mount & Balance Question
OK... so lets say that someone had some a set of 19s with tires on thier 05 TL and you bought them for your 05 TL that just has stockers on it. Should you get them mounted and balanced at a shop? or are they already balanced and you just have to put them on in your driveway... Oh, do you need an alignment also? Thanks for the help guys.... looking to buy some rims and I just wanted the answers to a few questions....

Depends on the vendor....most send tires and rims seperately though and you have to have them mounted/balanced. Yes....if you are increasing size to 19"...I would get an alignment too to make sure all is good camber-wise, ect. -prob is ok...but you do have an investment to protect. AH......rereading....you are buying a used set of rims/tires. yes...have them balanced at some point unless they are dang near brand new....same applies as to alignment above though. And yes...you could put em on in the driveway!!

Personally, I wouldn't do anything but put them on the car, unless there was uneven wear on the tires or you notice uneven wear and/or pulling to the L/R after you put them on. If this was a new set up and the tires weren't already mounted and balaced before shipping (many vendors do this), then yes, mount and balance when you receive them. I see no need for an alignment because you changed wheels.

They are already balanced from the other car, if you feel vibrations once you put them on I suggest getting them re-balanced otherwise you don't need to.

Awesome... thanks for the heads up guys... this helps..... Basically I guess I can just throw them on in the driveway, then if I notice any issues with them, take them in for balance and alignment... of course, jacking up each corner of the car and using a lug wrench for EVERY tire is a major pain in the ass....

Yeah, it will cost a few bucks when you get them, but then you have them and tire rotations and working on the car (and all future cars) is much easier.

Think about it. More then likely your spending any where between $350-$700 on your new tires (not including rims). Don't you think it would be a good idea to check your alignment so your new and expensive tires don't wear out prematurely? Is it necessary? No. Is it a good idea? Probably. $50 now can save you much, much more later. It all depends on milage on the tires you are getting though.

I only use the four on the sides myself...works good enough for me. The front one is just behind the bumper, center of the car...it's an aluminum looking piece of metal...sticks out against all of the black parts around it. I would imagine the rear is the same, although despite spending a good bit of time under the rear of the car while installing the CT RSB and ASPEC suspension, I don't recall seeing it (wasn't looking for it, either). There was a thread here some time ago that identified all of the jack points. I would bet the manual has them, too.
jmb - are you getting the Inspyres?

I would get an alignment done with the stock wheels. Many wheel shops (not all) have trouble aligning a car with 19" rims on them. I have 18s and I make sure I get my alignment right before I put them on.
