I was thinking of doing the same thing. I have read that springs only can be done, but that it can cause other parts to wear more quickly. I was thinking of doing the springs only just cause it seems cheaper, but if it wears other parts down, it might be worth waiting and changing the shocks and springs together. So I don't know, cause I want it lower now...lol

I have 45k on my car and any way I drove my buddys TL with just springs and it was kinda bootleg. He added shocks and its like an unbelievable difference. Its the answer if you cannot spring the money for coilovers, its the cheaper yet ALMOST same alternative to coils. 1200$ versus 750$? You make the choice!

Its a luxury TL, spend a little more and do it right!

Yeah, like that, but that is WAY too expensive.

At least is was way too expensive. Unless prices have gone way up, you should be able to get springs for $200 - $230 shipped.

Hit up some the site vendors.

for the price of springs and shocks you can get function form type 1 coilovers. (630 shipped on ebay) i have them as well as a few other members here and although u cant adjust damping, they are comfortable and you have the freedom of height adjustability

If you're reasonably mechanical and have the tools, yeah, it's pretty easy. A buddy to help will go long way to making easier.

The part that's probably the biggest PITA is removing the rear seat.

Here's some DIY Links:
