Looking for new tires for '07 Acura TL. (Please Help)

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and need your help. I need new tires, but unable to decided what is best for this car. I purchased some cheap Triangle Tires about a year ago because I lost my job and was on a budget, wow what a mistake. These tires are awful, loud and terrible on brakes. The tires took the life out of the performance of my car.
Anyways besides that, I'm now looking for some decent tires to buy. Close to stock Michelin Tires with fair price that were originally on the car. I went to pepboys to get quotes which wasn't bad, but the brands I was a little skeptical. Are cooper tires any good? What would be good recommendation for this car? I hear that BF Goodrich tires are made by Michelin? Are they any good? What about Goodyear tires? Or Bridgestone? Please give me some input, your replies are much appreciated.

Thanks

Have had great experiences with General Exclaim UHP. Reasonable price, excellent dry and wet, I get about 30K+ miles per set. I understand they are disappearing, so will probably go to Continental, as they own General. They've disappeared from Tire Rack, who BTW are great, too.

OP, you are in LA. Get Summer performance tires. I'm running Nitto NT05's. They're great! If you're on a budget, Falken FK452's are decent. If you have an unlimited budget, go for Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's, Michelin Pilot Super Sport, or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's.

Suggest the 245/45-17 as replacement tires, so take a look at the Tire Rack website for suggestions on that size. Must decide whether you want an all season tire or summer tire. The A/S tire will afford greater longevity then the summer tire, but for the most, a S/T will afford better handling but can't be driven when the temperatures near the freezing point.
Many to choose from and widespread pricing, so pick according to you parameters.

The size isn't what will afford a softer ride, it's in the tire construction and that is determined by the speed/load ratings. Higher speed/load ratings, are made with stiffer compounds to keep the tread flat at high speeds. One can say that the OE Michelin's 93W rating will afford a quality ride, but longevity and all season characteristics suffer as well as the high price. Got to remember these were made to Honda/Acura specifications to offer a "luxury" car ride, but aftermarkets fall short.
See your other thread.

All else being equal, yes, the taller tire will give you a softer ride. However, there are other factors that determine comfort. Speed rating is a rough indicator.

If you're in LA, no reason for an all season. Summer tires do as well and better in the rain as all seasons. You're not going to see snow or super cold temps. As Princelybug suggested, the Nitto NT05 is likely the best summer tire you can buy. If you shop around you can find them for $150 each out the door with mounting and balancing. They're great in a 255/40 size. Ride comfort is a little harsher than stock but considering the performance level they're not bad. My BFG G-force Sports that did not offer anywhere near the level of performance and turn-in response were much harsher than these. The one downside is don't expect to get more than 20,000 miles out of them as they're soft.

Have you taken a look at federal tires? I'm contemplating getting some to try out. Read some pretty good reviews about it and the price is a super deal. Each could range from $70-$100

I do a lot of highway driving and went for a grand touring all-season tire. I'm now about 10,000 miles into a set of Kumho Exsta LX Platinum and am soooo happy with the purchase relative to my other sets. They were on the less expensive side too. Super quiet, good feel of the road but they do a good job of absorbing bumps also. I've driven about 350,000 lifetime miles and 95k in my TL. I have never been as happy with a tire purchase.

If you want a different type of ride go to tire rack, enter the size, find a tire type, click on surveys, then click see full list surveys for that tire type. It's a compilation of surveys and you get an overall picture of driver's experiences over millions of miles driven on each available tire. That's what I did.

i have had experiences with Yokohama ES100 (dunno if they still make them)...great traction but wears out fast....BFGoodrich G-Sport....traction is good but not as good as ES100 but last longer....the last was Kumho Ecsta...good traction and last longer than the previous 2 tires and best of all it's cheap, however it's kinda noisy.....but i tried these tires when I had my MR2....i think i may go back to Kumho if i need to replace the tires on my TL later on in the future...

I got a set of Cooper RS3-A tires from treadepot.com a few months ago and love them so far. Nice ride and handling, and the price was right when they had rebates and free shipping. Also well rated in Consumer Reports.
