Lightweight/performance rims

Hey guys! I've done a bit of research on rims that will fit the 3rd gen TL, but am having a lot of trouble deciding which ones I want!!

From what I could find, the stock rims on an 07 tl (not a-spec) weigh roughly 25lbs a piece (without tire). Please correct me if that's not true, I've been searching for confirmation so that I could compare weights while looking at an aftermarket set.

I don't want to spend a ton. I think I would like to go with 18', but the main goal here is to reduce dynamic weight.

So far I really like the styling (not to mention price point) of the "MB Battle's"; but from what I can tell, they are hardly any lighter than the stock set =/
I have a base model TL so I don't have to worry about fitment of the brembos like the type-S.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I know Enkei makes lightweight wheels, there's Work, Forgestar, ect

Basically, you're going to want a forged wheel, cast wheels are generally heavier and aren't very strong.

As Italiano said, his Volks are forged and lightweight. Gonna be a pretty penny though

A few idea's from tirerack.com. I'm assuming you're married to the 18's idea. If you go 17's however, you'll save an additional 2-3 lbs per wheel. Plus, they're cheaper and tires are cheaper:

Enkei PF01's - 18x8 @ 18.6lbs. - $306 each

Enkei GTC01's - 18x8 @ 21lbs. - $377 each

Motegi Racing MR121's - 18x8 @ 21.1lbs. - $195 each

I sport the RPF1's, 17x8.5, 16lbs each. Best upgrade to my car hands down in terms of looks and performance.

I'm a fan of wedssport wheels. I currently have 18x8 tc005's on my TL. The weigh 17.7 lbs and I love how they look. Here are some pics: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-tires-wheels-suspension-97/tl-wedssport-tc-005-a-849887/

I recently bought a set of wedssport tc105n's which are 18x8.5 and only weigh 16.5 lbs!! I want to run 255's so these are wider and lighter FTW!

You have a ton of choices:

Enkei, Weds, Advan, Forgestar, Volks, Works, SSR, Motegi, 5zigen, Buddyclub

Enkei RPF1 is what I am running now and it is hard to beat in the bang for the buck category.

I have always been a sucker for Advans though.

Not my car but those are 18x9 and only weigh 18lbs

Thanks, dude. Those are some great options =) trying to stay as light as possible, while still appealing visually and not crushing my wallet haha

Thanks for all of the input, guys! Can anyone confirm or deny that stock non A-spec rims for the 3rd gen TL weigh about 25lbs a piece (without tire)? Just trying to get some good comparisons going.

If that's true, some of these aftermarket rims should make a pretty big difference! You can shed a good amount of dynamic weight/rotational mass =D

i attach a styling pic of a rims design I want but with a weight and size specs like one in your pic

I don't think there will be a problem with TPMS on most mainstream wheels. I've owned a few sets of wheels and have never had a problem. The stem openings on wheels are pretty standardized to fit a TPMS sensor. You may need new ones but the tire shop can easily help with that. Dealing with sensors is pretty routine for any tire shop. Especially since TPMS is mandatory on all cars for the last few years.

Make sure you get the right size. Most people (myself included) end up with 17x9 +22 or something more aggressive because that's what it takes to clear the big brakes.

Are you at stock height? What offset are you running? Type S?
