Koni Yellow Install.........

First off, I would like to thank Bearcat for the help today on installing the Koni's. First the good part.....There installed and the car looks and rides like no other. I have them on the bottom perch setting in the front and the middle setting on the rear. I have the H&R sport spring as well. The combination of the two is pure bliss. I love the way the car rides. The ugly.....The koni instructions are the F*cking worst I have ever seen. My seven year old son could have written them better. With that said, I had a hell of a day today. If only they had labeled things this side up etc. I would have been done hours ago. Anyway, I admit that I messed up the first time I installed these things. I had the bottom perch plate upside down giving you a hand of a gap in the rear. Pictures are below. After I figured out what I had done, the car was looking sweet. The Koni shocks are like no other, I just wish they would do a little better job on the instructions. Here are the pictures. Enjoy!

Very nice! Don't forget to drive them a hundred or so miles on full soft for break-in. I agree, the instructions are the worst. On my GN, I used Konis also and without a knob to adjust them, it took me two days to figure out I had to compress the shock all the way and turn to adjust.

What setting are you on? I have mine just under 2/3 stiffness. Any more than that and it gets a little harsh with stock springs.

I set the back for 3/4 turn in from the softest setting and the fronts are out 1.25 from the softest side. The ride is a little rough but nothing to complain about. The springs are H&R sports and the ride was great with the stock struts. The koni's make the car feel like a new car now. The car is very tight and very fun too take a turn at a high rate of speed.

I got it from this guy in FL. Here is the website. 620 shipped is a great price for these.

You can also try Mike from Acuratlparts.com. He is a vendor here and he has some good deals.

Just remember to keep them at full soft for at least 100 miles, preferably 1,000 miles. Some of the roadracing guys had premature failures from going firm without breaking them in.

Unfortunately it's not in the picture drawings, just something most people into road racing know to do. A couple people that had failures talked to Koni reps and this was the solution. Supposedly they're not covered if you don't break them in properly even though it doesn't show in the instructions.

Well, I'll tell you this: mmade22 and I are practically your 3G TL Suspension Experts. In our quest to DIY his and my springs, then his shocks, we've probably done the equivalent of 6 or 8 cars. Sooner or later, we're going to have to stop doing everything twice to get it right. lol.

Koni's lame ass instructions.

Live and learn, I guess. Glad we got to learn on *your* car. Mine'll be a snap if I can dig up $620 bucks.

Looks MUCH, MUCH better now, J.

BTW - we had a blast at "The Rock". Got down to a 14.37 @ 97 mph. Not bad for a near-stock 5AT TL-S and 1st time driver. There's pics/vids in the Racing sub-forum (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=169327&page=3 )

So how the hell do you change the firmness while they are on the car then? I can't imagine trying to compress it all the way while mounted. Also do they ship full soft?

^I change my damping settings while the shocks are on the car.
use the provided "knob" tool and you can turn the adjustments to either soft or stiff

Nice ride height! Yeah instructions are way bad. Between members here in threads on how to install and HeelToe got it done. I have Koni Yellows with stock springs. Lowest perch up front and middle in rear. I wish i had gone lower in rear but my youngest son has his Wheelchair/stroller, crutches and walker back there so i did not know how that would affect ride height. I will change later. Front is easy to change the dampening, remove strut bar and adjust. Rear have to remove rear seat and adjust.

Nice I just actually went thru and read your install thread. Sounds like u had alot of issues, including the busted radiator lol. Im just curious on the s techs because they are cheaper than the H&R sports and lower just a tad bit more. but then that scares me because it may be too low for the areas I drive. shit is so hard to decide.

Honestly; I didnt read any diy before hand.
I went into it blind, and my install showed.
however; if you know my pitfalls (also MMADE had some pitfalls as well) then you could ultimately avoid those.

There's 2 damping adjustments on the KONI's. One that needs to be done with the shock off the car by rotating the shaft and another that is done by turning the knob at the top.

Off the car is compression, the knob is rebound IIRC.

Are you sure about this? I was under the impression that only the Koni Yellow SP3's (discontinued) had adjustable rebound.

Regular Koni Yellow Sports have the same (top adjustment knob) as the Koni Yellow SP3's. As far as the external adjustment Koni's, I haven't heard of anyone using those on this car (or if they are even available?).

I've never heard of having both compression and rebound adjustable and where I'm at right now, more compression would be very nice. I hope you're right.

That's what it said in the manual. I remember being kind of confused as to why I needed to compress them to adjust when I put them on.

I have an 08 WDP and I also have Koni Yellows with H&R sports springs. I also tossed in a Comptech rear bar. True the car handles great. There is nothing like it.

I jammed out and took the easy install route. I got a pro speedshop do the install for me. I was out enjoying coffee without headaches. Hey I didn't even use any profanity during the install.

That part was for different type of shock absorber. Ours are adjusted at the top with the knob.
