I've had it.....

with potholes! I'm currently running 19" RonJon Legends in Liquid Graphite with 235-35-19 tires. This is the third time in 2 months that I have had to buy a tire for my TL. I had a thread a while back where I hit a pot hole and got a bubble in the sidewall.

About 3 weeks ago, another one of my tires started losing air. Upon closer inspection there was a small gash in the sidewall. Ended up changing that as well.

It's been raining a lot here in Tampa and the road by my house went to shit. There were two pot holes. I dodged the first one which was pretty fricking big and then after I corrected from my maneuver, there was a mammoth pot hole which took up half the lane of a two way road. There was oncoming traffic so I couldn't avoid it.

Bam! A few seconds later I could feel and hear the damage. I pulled over and discovered the tire had blew. I crawled at about 10mph to the local Tire Kingdom which was about 2 miles from my location. I got there and had to make a decision- Should I buy 2 new 19" tires or buy 4 245-40-18's for my new acquisition (I scored a set of 18.5 Gunmetal ASPECS from a local AcuraZiner).

After thinking about it, I decided to mount the ASPECS and I am so happy I did. My TL rides so much smoother now. No road noise. I feel a little more pep in the acceration- probably due to the smaller wheels/tires. I'm hoping my gas mileage goes up. To be honest, I like the look of the RJ's better but the ride with the factory wheels is priceless to me.

I'll be putting the RonJon Legends up for sale in the Black Market at some point.

Cliffs:
(1) Rant about buying new 19" tires over the past 2 months because of potholes.
(2) Put on 18.5 ASPECS and I'm happy.

On to the pics- the car is dirty. I just got back from a trip from South Florida over the weekend and it rained today.

I like the RJ's better too, but I can't blame you for making the switch. Constantly dodging potholes sucks.

Air pressure is ultimately the reason for flats. From Bicycles to cars and SUV's proper air pressure will decrease your chances of pinched tires and damaged wheels.

Sorry about the tires, but something good came out of the damm potholes! I know when I hit a pothole, I speak in tongue's and turn green, you know, something like the HULK, only a little wimpier! Glad your enjoying the new ride with the new wheels, they are nice!!

You just re-affirmed my decision to never get 19's here in NYC. I've had passing moments where i considered getting them, but so glad I didn't now.

I'm rolling on stock 17s right now and I cringe everytime i hit a pothole I can't dodge...sometimes they are just a part of the road... not even putholes just these big dips and elevations.

Could you post what you concider the proper air pressure for 235/35/19s.

I say Slam that Bitch to the Ground... Dam I didn't think Tampa would have so many Pop holes. I'm in Orlando and We do have pop holes but damn nothing that I've had to worry about buying new tires. I figured being that Tampa is more Upscale and classier than Orlando that they would take care of them Damn Pop holes. Your lucky u aren't up North. Them Pop Holes are DANGER!!!

You could go with a beefier tire.

Rondy- I agree. The three tires that needed to be replaced were probably close to 2/32 tread wear. They needed to be changed and I was going to do it sometime this summer. I was just trying to get the full use out of them without compromising safety but things have a way of working itself out I guess. I had bought this set up from another AcuraZiner from Miami and when I bought them the tires had some camber wear.

The wheels are great. I miss them already. IMHO, they look better than the ASPEC wheels. Who knows, I may mount them again sometime in the future if I feel like a change but for now I'm going to enjoy some stock wheels/tires. Cheers.

Florida potholes are Serious Bidness.

IMHO, you're better off with 18's anyhow (ride, weight, etc).

Joe- Sorry to see that you had to deal with all that! At least you have a Good backup! Was this off B.B.Downs? Construction around here has been a bitch! And if u ever decide to get rid of them (A-Specs), you have someone local to take them off your hands!

OT-We do need to get some people together for a meet!

Ya, RonJons wheels have held up pretty well and they are for sure not the culprit.

I've pretty much had it with the 35 series tire used for most 19" wheels.. Although 19s do look best on the TL, the comfort of the 40 series tires makes the biggest difference. Throwing on a 40 series tire on 19s is also an option but it makes for a very fat side profile.

Tim- this was off County Line just as your coming down the I-75 overpass as your heading towards my house.

Haha- will do about the wheels.

Are you coming to C & C this Saturday or working?

Brian- I have no complaints about the wheels-considering the different potholes I've hit, the wheels have no cracks or bends. Definately a high quality wheel IMHO.

Let me know- we can caravan over.

Well since, I now have the underbody kit, wheels, suspension and badge; I thought I might as well complete the damn thing and get the ASPEC wheel (silver w/ blue stitching). I called Tim @ Acura of Peoria and he doesn't have any. He checked inventory across the country and found one. I ended up calling that dealer and ordering it. The steering wheel should be here in a few days. Woot!

Check your door jamb for proper air pressure.

and 245/35/19 is the largest you should go, 40 series are reserved for the 18" wheels.

Those dark a-specs look great except for that they are all curb rashed up. I think they look real nice with that dark blue as well. I thought for sure when I saw this post the person was going to be from the NE or something. Very surprised to see FL. When I lived in Daytona area never encountered anything like that. Great roads down there. Im in the Chicago burbs and the roads are overall very nice here to.

I know I'm in the minority but I love the gunmetal a-specs.

I'm guessing you either can't get reimbursed or it's not worth the hassle? Around here, they're quick to fix potholes because people love to sue the city for that kind of stuff and usually win.

Matt- to me- it's not worth the hassle.

James- you are right- there is a lot of curb damage to the wheels. I will be getting them refinished.

Do you guys think I should put spacers on? Is there any detriment to performance if I do?

I have the 8.5" ASPECs and I run 15mm spacers all around, and might throw 20/25's on the back. Performance or ride quality has not been sacrificed as far as I can tell.

OEM fitment sucks IMO.

Thank you.

Do you have any suggestions on where I can pick some up? I googled it and came up with a few places but if you have any guidance I am all ears.

I got mine from Akata spacer on Ebay, theyre only 70 - 80 bucks depending on size, and they fit very well.

I thought the general consensus was 15mm on the front and 20mm on the back; that 25mm was a bit too much and may rub?

Also, on the Akita ebay store, I did not see 15mm with the bolts. Will they make 'em if you ask?

They may. I got the 20mm for my rears initially, and still had a few mm's of room (although im dumped and cambered) so i got 25mm and put the 20mm on the front, no rubbing except when hitting a large bump during a turn, but again im low
