I'm new and I need help...18's vs 19's

I know people have exhausted this issue, but I have been racking my brain for the past couple weeks cuz I finally decided to put rims on my type S.

But the question is ...

Should I ride with 255/40, 18?? or 255/35 and get the 19s??

How wide are the wheels and what are the offsets?

That tire size is a little too big for the speedometer, but up to you I guess

This is personal preference and you are going to get lots of opinions. FWIW I have 8.5" x 18" A-Specs and have Michelin Pilot Super Sport 255/40/18 mounted on them. I have been very happy with them and also have a Type-S.
Are you planning on dropping it or staying stock? Have you looked at and found rims you like?

Just got my 255/40/18s on thanks to NBP04^^ I got Continental ExtremeContacts, and love them! Have them on my A-specs. I don't think you'd be disappointed with the 18s

I've had 18's with 245-40's for 9 summers(stockies for winter) and this year switched to 19's(staggered) with 235-35's front 245-35's back on A-spec suspension and my car has never felt better.Should have done this years ago. Tires are Conti DWS's.

Depends on the type of wheel. Some look better as 19's (IMO), but it's def personal preference. There are plenty of members on here that pull off both extrodinarily well.

another way to help you make the decision is to research precisely what tires are available in 19's and how much more they will cost than 18's

Man, ive not even sure what proper etiquette is but i want to thank and respond to everyone!!

@ CLtotheTL32 and other that are interested, here is the link to the rims i want. (if that doesnt work, simply google MRR GT7 Black wheels, and an ebay page should result).

Yo, paperboy42190.....Ive been reading about bigger rims altering your speedometer reading, but how noticeable is it (for 18s it shoudnt be that much, but 19s?? I dont know)??

If its a marginal offset, then i wont be too concerned with the discrepancy.

abates49ers -

There is a Thanks button on the lower right side of each post that will allow you to say "thanks" to the poster.

In terms of the rims you have picked out, I can tell you they have the wrong bolt pattern - 5 x 120. The 3GTL has a bolt pattern of 5 x 114.3.

5 x 120 is correct for the MDX, RL and some other models.

Yo NBP04TL4ME, the link to the rims are in the above comment.

And naw man, I do not plan on touching the suspension. I am nowhere near skilled enough to do it, nor am i paying somebody else to do it.

NBP04TL4ME, I know about the bolt pattern and was told by the seller of the rims, that getting them adjusted to fit my 07 type S would not be an issue and would be no additional cost.

Luketic, I will probably do the same, lol! cuz alota TL owners are in love with conti's!!

Yo Tom Champagne, what is an A-Spec suspension??

Ive never heard of that before....

pohljm! Thats a damn good point!! But I am willing to spend the extra change for the 19 inch wheels and 35s, I just wanted to make sure that I wont be rubbing when my truck is loaded and i have 3 adults in the back....ya know.

DarkTower19, see, Im with you man. I like the way 19s look on many TLs. Were you able to peep the rims via the posted link above??

I hate to be so long-winded, but I DONT WANT TO RUB, I dont want to rub on speed bumps, fast turns, when my trunk is loaded down, and when I have 3 adults in the back seat!

I have a 99 Honda accord with 18s, that I use for work, M-F. My type S is only for weekend purposes. My honda, nobody can ride in the back seat, my suspension is fcked in that car! Im just afraid that in might happen in the type s.

Yo NBP04TL4ME, i dont know who I talked to you, but you are absolutely correct!!

That wheel WILL NOT fit!

Sorry for 2nd guessing you man. lol.

I was wondering how that was going to work..................

Also there is a multi-quote botton down on the bottom right which will allow you to answer multiple posts in a single post vs. having to answer each one with a separate one. It's the second from the left, just to the right of quote

hi,
Does anyone has a original part number of 18''x8.5'' GunMetal rims, which where manufactured only in 2004 as I heard.

Let me see if I can look it up for you.

As an aside here is a posting in the BM for some that we're for sale. I say were because I believe the seller did find a buyer.

I believe the correct part number for the 2004 18 x 8.5 GunMetal A-Spec Rim is 08W18-SEP-200

I recently downgraded from 19s to 18s and couldn't be happier. Better acceleration, better fuel mileage and cheaper tires. 9/10 18s will be lighter than OEM.

There are actually a lot of rims without that lip out there on ebay.
They have different letters in the end like ...-200A or ...-202E
Does those letters really stand for something?

This thread should help clear any of your confusion. And to the best of my knowledge, only the 8.5" Gun Metal A-Specs from 2004 do not have the lip at the edge.

factory 235/45-17 = 25.4/25.5" tall

255/40-18 = 26/26.1" tall = +2.4% in height meaning speedo will read 2.4 lower than you are actually traveling

255/35-19 = same as above

I am running 19x8.5 with 245/35-19 and i love them... only +1.2% in diameter which equates to reading 98.8mph at an actual 100mph.
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-tires-wheels-suspension-97/finally-ordered-my-wheels-871739/

The sizes you want are not unreasonable. Your speedo will read about 49mph when you are actually doing 50mph
