How safe are wheel spacers?

I just bought a set of 20 and 25 mm Ichiba V2 wheel spacers.
I was wondering how safe they were because i've seen some people with broken studs.

You asking if they are safe, after you had already bought them

Some people have had issues,I would never use spacers but that's just me.

I guess if you are a spirited driver, there is a greater chance of something happening.

Thanks for the replies guys

As far as buying them beforehand, there is something called a return policy...

there are very few incidents with wheel spacers and when they are, normally it's due to something silly like not installing properly or trying to run a version 2 10MM spacer...

When i googled "Ichiba V2 spacers" the first two results were: "Ichiba v2 Wheel Spacers NOT SAFE!!!" and "Almost DIED tonight thanks Ichiba V2 Spacers"

I'm on v1's 10MM front/back OR v2's 20MM on the back (I rotate my mildly staggered setup). Fiancee's on 25MM rears and 20 fronts and have done a bunch of road trips on them.

Given the first thing people research without owning them, is whether or not they fail. It doesn't surprise me that that's the most popular search.

If you're worried, don't get em! EASY!

You'll be OK with the spacers. I've got Akata's and love them!

like any modification you do to your car something can always go wrong. im sure there are horror stories with any brand spacers including ichiba. however ichiba is a very reputable company that in my opinion sells a good product which i would trust over just about any other brand of spacers. the main thing to remember is to torque them properly during your installation

^^^yep...and ESPECIALLY with the soft metal nuts they supply you. Torque to 80 ft/lb and no more. Check torque after a few days.

I go around 80 ft/lb on all nuts twice, so 10 times...when I've checked torque after a few days it usually won't go any tighter. Perfect.

i've ran different brands (ichiba, akata, h&r) and they're all basically the same.

one thing i will recommend you do is change out your OEM wheel locks (if you have OEM wheels). the litte indentation on the "lock" lug is prone to snapping in half with the extra weight of the wheel being supported by the lugs.

get a different wheel lock for each wheel. get one that has more of a grip/relationship with the wheel lock key.

Getting hubcentric spacers will decrease the likelihood of anything happening. Not sure if v2's even come non hubcentric

What do you suggest for lug nuts? (Might as well buy a whole new set instead of just replacing each lock imo, unless there's a lock that will look similar to OEM lugs)

as long as they're the right size (12x1.50) and ball-seat type made for OEM wheels...you're good to go!

The biggest problem with the oem locks is they're shallow...so since a lot of V2 spacers have studs that are slightly longer than oem, they hit the end and knock the lock portion off...

^right. that's what i was trying to say a few posts up.

need locks/lugs that have a grip to them...not a little star punch out.

Oh...after a bit of research it appears that the first link is 20 wheel locks and the second one is four.

i ran akata spacers but always felt like they gave extra vibration/uneasiness even though i checked the torque many times. after 2 weeks my OEM wheel lock broke off and I got paranoid and sold my spacers.

i have the gorilla locks you posted above and those are even more shallow than the OEM locks so they won't work with the long studs on the spacers. if you look at my threads there is one about spacers and i give dimensions for locks and everything in case you want to double check.

for me it was a matter of being paranoid or not...even though the spacers do give a great stance!

I run spacers V1 and 2 at any given moment, my fiancee is running V2's all around on her Accord and we've done road trips etc...no complaints at all. I guess to each their own.

I'm not sure on a TL since I recent;y just purchased mine but I ran a custom 2.5" set made by micrometrics for a wide body 240sx I previously owned with no issues at all. I actually had them on for years and never ran into any problems but alot of people I know don't like the thought of spacers for many reasons. My preference now is to alway have the best fit without but I have not witnessed the horror stories I hear in forums about spacer usage.
