How hard would it be to make MDX wheels work?
whats goin on fam?
so i picked up my 1st tl last week, a 08 (not type s ) and i been doin my wheel research...
i dont like aftermarket wheels and i wanna go with some oem acura wheels... i really like the 19" rdx wheels and i see quite a few people have it so me wanting to be different, how hard would it be to make the mdx wheels like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ACURA...item2eb0b75b00
fit?.... i know the lug pattern is off and the offsets are in the ballpark, 45mm i believe... would it work with adaptors or would the addaptors make the wheels poke out too far and rub? i did some searchin and couldnt figure it out... thanks for the help everybody!!!!

I've never dealt with adapters so I can't help you out with that, sorry.
I just wanted to say that I live in Cary right by the YMCA. Nice to see another Acurazine member local to me

All pending..
not sure what the exact wheel spec but by description it says, 19x8.5..
If it has +45 offset that its already 1/4 inch farther out... and I don't recommend adapters less than 15mm.
So it might work, but you might have to run negative camber to fit it.. which you have to think if its worth having pre-mature tire wear just to fit this wheel.
Check for detail spec of the wheel.

A 8.5" wide wheel with a +45 offset will fit just fine. You've just gotta see how big the adapters are.

there is a set of adapters in the black market, seller is "lights". He was gonna use them on his MDX wheels after he got them thinking they are the same bolt pattern. Spacers are 15mm thick and never used, built by a reputable company in US.
15mm adapters with +45mm offset wheels will make the final offset +30mm, which will work just fine with no rubbing. I had the same spec wheels and offsets and I was lowered and they didn't rub with 235/35 tires

OMFG IM SO HAPPY I COULD KISS ALL A YOUS!!!!! the adaptors are 150 for some 1.25" ones... i think thats the standard width... my boy wit a 04 lexus gs430 put some seven series wheels n got custom made skinnier ones for 300, n theyre like 25mm he thinks....
i was just really nervous to try cuz last time i tried messin with adaptors for my heavy chevy i was out 2000 for some 24s and 300 for the damn adaptors i had made cuz the offset ended up bein too crazy in the front wheel well n i couldnt barely turn the wheel lol (its funny to me now haha but damn was i pissed at myself then).. now that i have a car worth over 20k instead of like 2k, i dotn have the xtra money to do it over lmao and this is my daily as opposed to a weekend car so i wanna "1 n done" her...
guys thanks again so much for the advice... would i still be able to lower her u think on some bc coilovers or soemthin or am i askin for rubbin thinkin i can get away with it... i know those are adjustable so i can go as low/high as i want within reason of course... and should i go with the custom skinny ones or or get the 1.25" adaptors?
hell yea bro lets get up!! i wanna see some of these things hooked up, there was some other kid i noticed from cary n i hit him up but he never hit me back so... i kinda unexpectedly fell into this vehicle n never seen em done up in person... im in the process of figurin out what looks good and what looks tacky to me but youtube/pics only kinda give u an idea...

I've never seen those wheels on a TL

Make sure the adapters are right hub centric and also to the wheels. If not, invest another $20-40 on some correct hub centric rings... if the adapter hubs are smaller than the wheel hubs. Other way around, you are screwed. If its not hub'd correctly you will put bit more stress on the studs and it could break especially with thinner adapters.

extended lug bolts
can anyone tell me if i have to extend the lug bolts to put the 15mm adaptors on from lights? my guess is no, but im about to mount everything up as soon as the adaptors get here... here's some pics of the whip with the wheels next to it and i lowered her over the weekend too ht spec type 2s...

I'm curious how they look when you are done. I actually have a box of 4 of those exact wheels (MDX Advance Wheels) in my garage, in brand new condition. If they look good on a TL, maybe someone will want to take them off my hands, lol.

25MM = 1 Inch, you will NOT be able to run a 1.75" adapter. You need a custom 15MM one. The reason that will work is that an adapter is basically the same thing as a version 2 spacer. You do not need extended studs to make this work. If you were running a version 1 spacer for this...A) it wouldn't be an adapter and B) you'd end up with 115.4 x 4 lug pattern again!
Anyway, 15mm is the smallest you can find an adapter for (or v2 spacer for that matter).
As low as you sit...you will need to roll fenders both front and rear. With a 235 tire, and rolled with a similar stance, I was able to manage a final offset of +35 front and +25 rear with the use of spacers and a 9" wide rim. I would rub SOMETIMES on the front with camber corrected.
All that goes out the window with negative camber though...you can run it without rolling probably if you leave your camber naturally negative...the way it sits looks like you're running about -1.5 front camber and -2.5 rear. Just a guess though...

haha thanks man... same to u n yours!!... it was a 15mm adapter i bought offa lights on this forum. he said they were hubcentric and made specifically to fit 5x120 mdx wheels on a 3g acura tl. i know th lug pattern and offset are ok for what i'm tryina do, but i'm still a little paranoid about the stud sizes being all compatible as well since i didnt order everything myself and the studs are different for the two vehicles... fingers crossed!!!

The spacers you bought from lights will have new studs pressed into them already. That's the point, no? Your oem studs will bolt the adapter to the hub, and the adapter will present you with 5 new studs that are pressed into them that will now have a 5 by 120 lug pattern. You don't need extended lugs...even if you had extended lugs, they'd pass thru the 5 x 114 side but not the 5 x 120 side, right?
So you'll be good!
AND 15MM you can make work for SURE. Might require a little finesse and rolling but you'll get it. Was concerned you went nuts and bought the 2 inch ones...in that case...NOPE, not happening and you would have to go get a tattoo of La Virgen de Guadelupe...

adaptors
i bought the adapters off of "lights..." on the black market... he also posted in this thread...
you're right about the studs... idk why i was worried about gettin extended studs off the car's hubs... i think i was over thinking just a lil bit... as far as the new studs coming off the adaptor in the 5x120 pattern, i was a little concerned about the size of those studs.... reason for that concern was a shitty ride if the studs were say too narrow or something, or too fat and didnt pass through the wheel (unlikely probably, just my paranoia since history taught me alotta lessons the hard way on past cars and motorcycles smh)
i'm not really concerned with this setup workingtoo much any more.. im pretty sure im good to go now with everyones input (knock on wood)... BUT, say they're still a lil too sunk in for my liking, anybody got enough experience with these things to know if its a bad idea to put like a 5mm spacer in addition to the 15mm adaptor, just thinkin ahead, or am i beat and gotta get 20mm adaptors made?

No way, if it's MEANT for oem honda wheel...then it's going to be 12 x 1.5 which is a standard thickness stud, won't be too small or too big.
In addition, your problem will be more likely being able to stay as slammed as you are and NOT pulling fender...flush will not be an issue with a +30 all around. Worst case, you can always look into having a thicker adapter made and sell one set of yours. You don't want to slap a type 1 spacer onto a type 2 spacer, IMO, at that point you're pushing the limits. The further away from the hub you go the more stress the corner experiences.

I just replied to your PM.
I agree with Rockstar, don't add a spacer on top of the adapter. I wouldn't imagine that being very safe, plus not being flush means you can slam that bitch on the ground

good shit fellas... well hopefully these adaptors show up soon so i can finish up my first legit mod - wheels n suspension (only isimple and tint so far not countin last weekend with the coils n some hid/leds)...
i was kinda thinkin the same with havin the adaptor and spacer, but i figured id ask... ida more than likely just went with some fatter adaptors myself to play it safe, unless i got some different feedback...
to be continued... lol

+30 is more than aggressive, if for some reason, you dik don't get hard for it...get yourself front and rear camber kits and staighten out the top of the tires until they are flush with fender. I guarantee you at +30 the bottom of your wheel will sit further out than the fender.

and now... the moment we've all been waiting for... just remember, u seen it here first!! lol... most of the pics still had the stock wheels, my 3 ton jack, and my tools in the trunk, so the back looks kinda lower... tires are 215/35/19 falken 452's, and i got 15mm spacers, bringing the offset out from +45 to +30... i'm 90% thrilled with it, no rubbing no nothing, but i definitely see myself going more agressive with the offsets in the future... sorry for the iphone pics, but thats as good as its gonna get lol, but i'll clean her up hopefully today or tomorrow since itll b sunny but cold, and i'll post some better pics... ENJOY!!!
question though, do our fenders come part rolled from the factory? cuz mine look like they were half rolled or something in the rear(bought used a couple months ago so idk).. ill try n get a pic of it...

No sir...it's a low light picture...aperature stays open longer to make picture light enough and anything that's already bright gets overexposed.
Looks GREAT, man...those tires look VERY slim, how's the ride? About the aggressive offset, you sure you don't want to just get camber kits and correct up top...if you go MORE aggressive you're going to have to run more negative camber just to get the bottom of the wheel to appear it's sticking out more?
Yes, your fenders come slightly rolled looking from factory...the rears are easy, the fronts have a lip up front that needs to be trimmed or cut and hammered flat.
Congrats man...I like the look a LOT!
