Help: with tire dilema (lowering may be the cause?)

Okay... so, I have a set of 19" wheels with 1.75 drop-front and back. I got the wheels back in Oct of 2001. The shop that dropped my car also perform an alignment. The wheels and tires were used so, I knew I had to get new tires later... Last summer I got some new Yokohama AV3 Sport 235/35/19 (the old ones were Nitto's NT-555 same size).

Anyway, the other day, I noticed there were vibration at certain speed... so I took the car into the shop where I got the tires from (America's Tire), I told them the problem, thinking that I needed balancing... but before I even got to sit down in the waiting room... the guy called me back out to the shop floor to show me the problem... the insides of the front tires were all shredded up!!! I couldn't believe it... I just got those like... 8 months ago!!! So, the guy told me that it might be the alignment... but told me what I really need is a camber kit... I asked someone in this site about that.... and he thinks the camber kit may cause rubbing... I asked the Acura dealership (service guy) and he thinks I need coil overs... I'm a little confused... My car wasn't "pulling" over to any side... so, I think the alignment is "okay" I went for a long time with the Nitto's and had no problems... now all of a sudden... the insides of my front tires are all "chewed up!" So, what do you guys think I should do? And what I should do...

Sounds like a camber issue. Do the tires toe in? Did you get them rotated every 3000 miles? I had the same problem with my yokohama paradas (on an integra w/ 1.75 drop). until I started rotating them more often. And actually 8 months isn't bad depending on how many miles You've put on them in that period. But they shouldnt be chewed up as you described.

i would have to say it sounds like a negative camber problem. any thing over -1.2 is going to start to wear your tires unevenly. the 2nd problem (more so the first) is that yokos have a very soft rubber compound. what that means is that they have very good grip, but there life isnt verey long. ive had acouple sets of yokos, all of which ive worn out in 1 summers time. i would start with an alignment first to see where you stand. if you have any thing over -1 i would start to consider an camber kit

So, both of you mentioned camber... but what's this thing I hear, that a camber kit might cause rubbing? Do you guys know about that? BTW, if it matters... my wheels are 8" wide with 51mm offset.

I had my TL lowered more than that and my alignment problem was TOE OUT. The front tires actually pointing slightly outward not straight. It won't pull to one side because both are like that. All it takes is one good pothole to knock out the alignment..........
