hey guys,
i just dropped my car at the dealer for my a1 service and they said that my rear driver side tire has a nail in it. he said it will cost $240 for the tire and $15 to mount it. i dont know much about tires but am i getting ripped off because that seems like a lot.

because i figure it will cost $1000 to replace all 4 tires

Where's the nail located? If it's in the center of the tread and if you didn't drive too far when it was going down, chances are they can patch it and you'll be fine. I just patched one of mine and it was $10.

Not sure which tires you have on your car, but if you check local tire stores (Discount Tire in particular), you can take it to them and they will sell you a nominal fee to warranty the tires you have. Then, if anything goes wrong (nail, blowout, whatever) they will replace the tire if you just pay for the warranty on the new one.

I've used this at least twice in the past year after driving through new construction areas.

Your ability to patch the tire totally depends on the location of the nail. Pretty much if it is anywhere near the sidewall you will likely be out of luck. However, as was previously mentioned, it can be patched if it is closer to the center of the tire.

what tire are you getting anyway, because if it is the turanza EL42, then100 dollars even isn't worth it. but 200-300 is the normal price range for the tires, here it is 264.99 for the michelin MXM4's plus 15 mounting, 283 for michelin pilotsports plus 15 for monting and balancing.

thanks. im going to take it to a tire shop and get it patched up. my dad took a look at the tire after he got out of work and said it can definitely be repaired.

god, i hate those dicks at the dealership. they never stop trying to rip off the consumer.
never buying an acura ever again.

when i was thinking, i didnt think $240 was that expensive until i put it in terms of replacing 4 tires, which would cost over $1,000.

re

i dont even make them do my services anymore besides oil change and anything that is covered by warranty, they are mainly all things you can do yourself or would cost 80% less to do them with a regular mechanic garage.

Back to the main question
What tires exactly do you have? Make model and size
Thats where the price comes in
PLus the dealer has to add a huge markup
