Help me pick out all-season tires
Ok, So I need some new tires. I have an 08 Acura TL and it has 59k miles on it. The front two tires are losing tread bad, almost bald. The rear ones aren't so bad. I think the owner before me changed them and the service center moved the old tires to the front and put the new tires to the rear.
I'm basically looking for some moderately priced tires that are going to me the following:
1. Fuel Efficiency
2. Quiet Ride
3. Dry Performance
4. Tread Life
I was looking into the Bridgestone Turanza with Serenity Plus, but they're so expensive! I was at Costco and they were telling me that they are going for $223 and they would put the new tires to the rear and move the old tires to the front. WTH?!

Myself I would never miss match tires .. either buy mates to what you have or go for all 4

Never been much on the Bridgestone tires as they are usually made with a small tread width, but the new 970's have changed that theme. Never tried them so can't relate the ride, handling quality.

What are the NT850's? I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with tires at all.
I spoke to a friend and he told me to check out the Goodyear Eagle GT.

I suggest avoiding all Goodyear tires on the TL-- members have not generally had good results with them in terms of noise, wear or production quality.
Check out the Tire Rack comparison check that Turbonut linked at:

I have the current #1 rated Bridgestone Pole Position RE970s, but they've only been on the car for a few thousand miles. They are quiet thus far, and felt good during an autocross-- better traction than the OEM Michelin Pilot MXM4s, with no loss of fuel efficiency. Cost was @ $180 each mounted and balanced. Costco doesn't have them yet, but is still selling the predecessor RE960 for $220+ each .

New tires ALWAYS go on the back if only buying two...as it is much safer to lose the front end rather than the back end when hydroplaning or whatever...but I agree with Jesstzn..buy 4!!

Based on the TireRack survey results, the Continental ExtremeContact DWS is a very compelling choice. It should meet all the criteria pretty well- possibly a ding on fuel efficiency, but no worse than the Michelin AS/Plus in all likelihood.
The Contis will be my choice in a few months- I'll be buying some new tires before winter rains hit.

My son in law bought them based on the Tire Rack surveys too ... Said it was the worst tire he ever bought.
Seriosly .. look at the Nitto ... I have had a set on my Civic for a while now .. great in every way ... never tried them in the snow and don't intend to.

I've got the Continental DWS tires and like them-no issues.

I am somewhat 50-50 with conti dws's. I have them on '07 tsx and I love them. About two weeks ago, I also put them on my '06 tl without much thinking and doing any sort of research and I actually hate them. I previously had Yokohama advant s4 and they seemed to be much better tier, at least in dry. For some reasons my car feels very floaty and not responsive, I almost feel like i am driving some sort of a granny car, not a sports sedan. I can't believe the same tire does wonders for tsx, but not so much for tl. With that said, I am also, looking for a new set, as I will be replacing those as soon as I can find somethig else I that price point.
Funny how survey results work ... I have seen a lot of people not happy with the DWS , forums here and then VW & Civic forums ..

Personally, I will not recommend Bridgestone Serenity. I don't know how the Serenity Plus will be but I have the regular Serenity's and I hate them. Thread noise howling type sound which of course these tires do cup easily due to tire structure and thread design. As soon as I get the lower control arm bushings replaced and getting alignment I will replace tires with Michelin MXM4's Primacys

Yes, I think I'm going to go with the Nitto Motivo's instead of the Continental DWS tires. I like the added tire warranty and the fact that they seem to handle better and are also quiet.

I feel that Achilles are the most bang for your buck all season, if you are incredibly cheap. Moderate road noise with 40 series tires from them and great lifetime on their tread. With various wheel set ups, I was able to get close to 35k, after flipping and rotating them.. with -3 camber. I would think they would last close to 40 if you decided to rotate and keep factory alignment specs in check often. I usually get alignments every 6 months

tire shopping
Check Tirerack.com for comparisons of tires which fit your Acura then try Discount Tire Direct for prices. Just bought some Continental DWS at lowest price around, shipped to me free and without sales taxes. Couldn't beat the deal anywhere.

Um...it's not a myth...any reputable tire shop won't put new tires on front and worn tires on rear for the reason I stated...thnx for your concern!

That is old news and a myth. If you don't believe me, do your homework cause I'm not going too. Btw, tire shops only know that because they weren't sure and didn't want to be held liable of a problem. Don't argue if you're just listening from a tire shop :x

It's a myth and was used to protect the company(s) from liability if something bad would occur because there wasn't sufficient evidence otherwise till last year.
