Help Choosing a good all-season tire

I am in need of new tires. I have a 2006 TL, 17 in. wheels, stock. It is a daily driver for my wife. We get a good bit of snow where we are, approx. 80-100in./ year. Last year we had 120+. I would also like a tire that is quiet. I have narrowed my choices down to the BFG super sport a/s, Nitto invo's, and the falken 512. I read personal reviews that said the falken was good in snow, but Discount tire tech said no??? I have heard people rave about Nitto. I would like to stay under $150/tire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just got a set of Kuhmo Ecsta LX Platinum tires for my 18" A-Spec wheels. They were $159 a pop, but I'm running 245/40/18, they should be a bit cheaper for you. I got mine off of tirerack.com. I have had them on the car about a week and I'm in love, they are quiet and smooth.

When I finally pick up my 18's, I'll probably be going with the ExtremeContact DWS also. Read reviews on the original ExtremeContact on tirerack.com, sounded really good for all season use. I get all seasons where I am, occassional heavy snow, etc. I have Michelin Pilot Sport a/s on the car now, stock size. They were really solid this past winter/spring (spring snow in Colorado=wet & slushy), but they are a little bit more than you are looking to spend. Tirerack has the new plus model for $178. The DWS are $127, and orig ContiExtreme for $109. Just my contribution, hope you end up getting a tire that works for you.

If you are going to drive in some snow... I read Michelin Pilot A/S Plus are outstanding, it's 400 AA A, 45 Miles Warranty... US$ 165 each at tirerack.com

But if you could get it from Costco... they might charge more, but it's all inclusive... periodic rotation, and service...

Ok, I went with the Extreme contact DWS by continental. So far it seems to be a very good tire for the money($132/tire @ DT), and it looks pretty good as well. It has a nice shoulder cut on it. I will report back after we get some snow here in Colorado, it won't be long.

Went with these too. We just missed out on a free portable Navi system (ended July 31st). Damn it! So far I'm pretty impressed with handling.

I have Yokohama Avan S4's and love um. Excellent quality, quiet ride and improved handling. The tires you've mentioned I don't think are the quietest tires As far as price goes they're not the cheapest tires, but you get what you pay for.

I have been running these for 4wks now and have been very impressed with both wet and dry pavement...can't wait to see how they perform this winter. They beat out the Michilen Sports in tireracks test, so I'm expecting them to be excellent and long lasting. I got a great deal at $160/ea (245/40/18) before the GPS rebate and cashback through Bing!

BTW, the original Cont Contacts are the noisy ones...The DWS version is new.

I would also like to add for anyone that is considering the Cont. DWS version that they are rated for 50k (540 tread rating.)

80-100" of snow? It's a pain, but have you considered snow tires? I'm running Dunlop Signature SP Sport all weather tires, but we're only getting 15-20" a year.

So far I'm very impressed with the extreme contact. It looks good, is a very smooth ride. I'd say road noise is average to slightly below. It is solid handling and very good on wet pavement. It does not seem to affect my MPG at this point, still between, 25-27. I will be reporting back soon on the snow handling. Yes we get a lot of snow, last 3 years, 155", 80", and 110". I can't be bothered to do the 2 sets of tires, although it would probably serve me better. Still waiting on GPS unit( my info has been accepted for processing), I paid in advance for tires on July 31, and had them mounted the next week.

I'm also highly contemplating throwing the CONTI DWS on my 19's so that I can ride around in the winter with these. I'd like to hear some more feedback on these tires.. I use to have the version I of these tires on my 2G and I loved their performance and wet/snow handling characteristics.

The only problem the Version I had was that they had a very soft sidewall so I had 2 tires bubble on me, and if parked overnight long they use to flat spot. I hope this is no more with the Version II. All reviews look very promising.
