Help - 215/55, 225/55 vs. 205/60?

Discovered a sidewall bubble on my '01 TL w/Michelin MX4 205/60/16 oem tires.

This forum seems to recommend 'upgrading' to 225/55/16 size, and most online tire websites list 215/55/16 as the size to use. How would the car feel, handling-wise etc. if I changed to the 55 profile? Is there a noticeable difference between oem 205/60 and 225/55 ?

I saw good reviews on Falken Ziex 512's and they come in both 205/60 and 225/55 sizes - but the 205/60 is warranted for more mileage yet costs less.

Any comments would be appreciated. Thx in advance.

re:225/55 vs. 205/60

Also I've seen posts here that say a 225 vs. a 205 tire made their TL a bit more sluggish? Comments?

I was just thinking - my '88 Prelude had 185/80-13's (!) and that was the most nimble,fun-to-drive car I ever owned...why are tires going in the opposite direction - wider, fatter, lower?

Why BIGGER you ask???

The reason for WIDER and LOWER tires is for handling and speed. Wider tires will obviously give you better grip, not to mention they are usually Z-rated (for 125+ MPH). The reason for low profiles is to lower the cars center of gravity where the suspensions left off, also to give it a nicer look to your rims!
