Goodyear Eagle F1 AS's off--Michelins back on---
I Replaced the Michelin pilots that my '08 TL came with at 1500 miles--with Goodyear Eagle F1 AS--the TL lost its smooth ride and tram lining was noticeable especially when turning on uneven pavement--it would pull on the steering wheel. The F1's picked up every small irregularity in the road--there was a constant "nervousness” while driving. The F1’s also had a low pitch howl at 50-60 MPH on course pavement. All that is gone now that the stock Michelins are back on. So be aware about what you read in the reviews at tire rack….the tire rack testers praised the Michelins but the buyers reviews did not. I think there is a reason Acura uses these tires--they make the car feel good. BTW the F1’s did corner slightly better but not that much. Overall I think the Pilots HX’s are a better tire for the TL for overall driving….it remains to be seen what happens this winter!!

I'm not to thrilled with the above-review however, because their top-rated tire (the Potenza RE960) was ranked under the F1 A/S in another test: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=87
Apparenlty the only differnece between the two tests was the test car (tire & wheel sizes were the same). The new test used the 2008 BMW 328i coupe and the older test uses a 325i Sedan.
blkaspec, you'd be interested in the second link provided above, where the Nero M&S outperformed the Eagle F1 A/S.
I'm anxiously awaiting a review of the new Eagle GT, which looks like it may have inhereted some technology from the F1 Asymmetric:

good info, thanks. i really like my pirellis, but they have almost 40k on them and really need to be changed. my plan was to stay with the same tire, but others have spoken pretty favorably about a few of those other brands. mine still handle ok, and they are dead quiet, but i will agree with the wet handling...not the best. but overall a great tire. i really need to make a decision soon, so i may just have to stick with pirelli.

The Positive: When driving in a straight line they are very nice - quiet and smooth.
However:
When turning the wheel sharply, as in avoiding an obstacle, the RE960 feel sluggish, sloppy, slow to react. They feel soft in the side wall. This is in comparison the the OEM Turanza EL42!
When on an off ramp - long sweeping curve - doing 40MPH there is a howling that was never there before.
Top it off with a 2 - 3 mpg DECREASE in fuel economy.
I will NOT be buying the RE960s again.

The tirerack test results are all over the place. Within a one year period the Goodyears went from 2nd in summer performance, 1st in winter performance, and now last in the summer performance this year with all the contenders remaining the same except for the BF goodriches.....don't understand it.
I can concur about the tracking stuff....the review can go either way...some drivers seem to like it, calling the behavior a more precise feeling....while others don't. I noticed more tracking when I have my tires at higher PSIs.
I've had no issues with balancing from Discount Tire. Road noise might be noiser then stock....but just compare the treads...of course the Goodyears are going to be noiser....they also grip a hell of a lot better too.
The stock Michilens.......are absolute CRAP. The amount of wheel spin produced even with stock autos is ridiculous, quiet yes.....but I wouldn't trust my life with them in anything but a straight line, and traction on that is ifffy....

this is a good video throws a lil knowledge about how old tires should be when u get them i was actually surprised at how to tell the age of a tire.
