Front wheels, dirty :(

Can't resist the stopping power of the OEM brembo front pads, so have been keeping it.

Wondering how often you guys clean the wheels.

I drive 90% hwy and don't use brake that often. Still the front wheels get dirty after a week or two.

different pads, some low dust ceramic powerslots don't dust much at all.

also, take off both of your front wheels, clean them VERY WELL inside and out and then apply some high temperature resistant sealant and/or wax. this will make the wheels much easier to clean in the future and also minimize the amount of brake dust that gets caked on.

My front wheels start to look gunmetal after 2-3 weeks from all the dust, lol.

Oh well, they're easy to clean, and the excellent stopping power and fade resistance is a fair trade off IMO. Plus they look cool.

It will always be an issue as long as you use OEM pads. I switched pads and have a lot less dust. I would take a damp rag to the wheels every few days and wipe them down.

Akebono brake pads are impressive if you plan on changing your brake pads. Low dusting, quiet, and great stopping power.

I'm a fan of Akebono street performance.
QUIET, good initial BITE, and LOW dust.
Good longevity as well.

That's the norm for OEM Brembo TL's. Just play the game 'see how dirty I can get my front wheels'. When they turn full black, you win!

I've had great use out of Racingbrake ET500 + Racingbrake rotors. Stops on a dime, dust is manageable, wear amount is lower than expected.

I use Brown Royal to clean the wheels off, works like a charm and you know... putting the rim sealer to have less brake dust works, but only for a wk until it will build up.

I wash my 6MT about every 4-6 months. Sometimes I wash my wheels in between. I do split my driving between 2 other cars though, so the TL doesn't see much action through the summer. Even still I get quite a bit of brake dust. For the last couple washes I've used that Armorall wheel protectant. It does really well at keeping the wheels cleaner for longer.

BTW: IMO anyone using special wheel cleaners is just wasting their money. Even the mildest soap takes this car's brake dust right off. Heck, one swipe of your finger results in a glossy clean spot anywhere on the rim.

agreed. i always use my left over APC for cleaning wheels, but the sealant/wax really does help prevent future brake dust from caking on so thick/greasy. it cleans off much easier if you have a sealant on there.
