I had a loud thump in the front of the car. The first mechanic says it was the struts and replaced them and did some other work. The thumping remain but I was not feeling the first mechanic and took it to another mechanic. The second mechanic said the first mechanic installed the struts wrong. I called the first mechanic and he said you can't install struts incorrectly. Who is blowing smoke up my butt?

 

Without checking the car myself I can't tell you. I guess it would be possible to install something wrong, like miss the spring seat or don't push shock all the way in into the wishbone, or leave something loose. It is also possible something else is making the noise.

Go to either one of them, or even find third one. I would go back to first one since he worked on the car last and didn't fix the noise.

 

could also be engine mounts.


you need to find a more competent mechanic or do some troubleshooting yourself.
