Which first - Lower or Wheels?

Which should I do first? Lower on stock wheels or add aftermarkets and lower later? Looking at 19 x 8.5s.

That can be a tough decision. If you're doing a standard drop with springs...you could lower it first. I say this because the height is already pre-determined. Coilovers are adjustable and a shop will charge you if they have to re-adjust the height!

I have read a lot about springs vs coilovers. I know coilovers are better but really don't want to pay the price at this time. If I were to get springs first, how much life will it give my factory shocks. Secondly, which springs? Tein, H and R, Morgan, etc.?

I used to go spring route on my other cars. I have coilovers now and love it. They are more expensive, but worth it IMO! Think about this...I used to pay about $220 to $250 on springs, then about $600 to $650 on struts. When you add it all up it's not that much difference and you're able to adjust! You're gonna spend the money one way or the other. Stock struts and aftermarket springs aren't a good mix.

that depends.. you can either get wheels first and have a monster truck or have a clean drop, but on springs.. you won't be satisfied with the drop.

Chris, I'd say wheels first. A drop can be a less obvious modification. But wheels definately stand out.

yep, drop it first. rims with no drop looks a little odd imo depending which rims you go with, but the drop will look hot even on stocks.

I planned to drop it first (Teins SS hopefully), then the 19s!! Imagine your TL on 19s w/o the drop.

Go for the drop and get some coil-overs. If you're going with springs, I would suggest H&R sports on 19's. Reguardless, I would say drop first. Although, depending on the wheels, some aftermarket wheels do look good on stock height TLs.

I got 19' wheels first, then just dropped it recently. It wasnt a big deal as I got low profile tires, which minimally increased the overall diameter of the tire over the stock, and it looked fine. Looks even better now after dropping it a 1.25". For me it came down to finding the right rims and finding the right suspension. Waiting for the warranty to expire also played a factor.

It just so happened that I found the right wheels long ago, recently found the suspension I wanted, and the timing worked out that my warranty just expired as well.

It's not going to look bad, but a drop is going to look better/cleaner overall.

I would either wait or spend more and get some nice coilovers instead of springs.

Question for you guys... I'm pretty new to the suspension side of my car. I've been doing some research and trying decide which route to go. I have a '07 WDP TL and I'm looking to drop it. I not changing the wheels yet b/c its almost winter now but I will do so next Spring along with the A-Spec Kit. I see that Tein is pretty poplular amongst you guys. Now if I were to go with the Tein SS, would I need anything else to complete the set or is it all package deal? I'm just confused b/c I hear people saying... things about spring, struts, shocks and etc... I just need to know what I need to do a drop and do it safely. Also reading on Tein's website it says "When install EDFC Need to Remove Strut Tower Bar"... what exactly is that and how does it affect the car? I have more questions, but I wait till these get answered first! Thx

If you decided to go with the Tein SS. It comes with everything you would need to install them minus the tophats. Their are two things you can do either reuse your tophats on the Tein SS. Or purchase new tophats to put on the Tein SS. The EDFC is a controller that allows you to control the dampering levels from inside the cabin instead of manually having to do it underneath the hood, and taking out the rear seat to adjust the dampering manually. It is a easier way to adjust it. In order for the EDFC mounts to be placed on the front coilovers the strut bar has to be either removed or you have to cut out part of the strut bar inorder for the EDFC mounts to fit they will not fit cause of the strut bar. Members have done both, or you can take out the stock strut bar all together and replace it with the Accord Greddy strut bar. Hope this answers your questions.

And to the OP I am going to have to agree drop before rims. Atleast with a drop it still looks half way decent on stock wheels. With just wheels you look like a 4x4. Just my two cents.

I've been battling the same dilemma but after reading this thread I will probably lower my car first and then get rims in the near future. Does anyone know if lowering the car will only affect the warranty of the suspension or will it affect the warranty of the whole car?
