Falken Zeis 912 v. Conti Extreme Contact DWS

Have and 07 TL 'S', bought new A-Spec wheels that I'm gonna put on in the spring, and have narrowed it down to these 2 tires.

Have had GREAT luck/experience previous with 2 sets of the Falken 512, and can get them for about $70-80 less than the Conti's at Discount Tire Direct

The reviews of the Continentals on Tire Rack seem great, but mostly on smaller cars. Anyone got them on the TL yet? Anyone able to compare them to the Falkens?

Thanks.

It seems like the latest, most current trend is towards the Continentals.

I have the Contis DWS on my TL, drives like brand new again & very quiet, only 3000 miles tho so we'll see over the long run later.
I've used the Falkens on several other cars & never a problem, they get a little noisey later near the end of their lifetime but not bad.
I like the looks of the Conti's sidewall better.

Are you able to by the cheaper locally than at Tire Rack?

I have a brand new set of Falken 912s sitting in my basement waiting to go on. This will be my second set for this particular car.

I'm pretty happy with them overall, but what I REALLY like about them is that they have a 40,000 warranty on them (when you buy through Discount Tire Direct anyway, not sure if it's a manufacturer's warranty or not). For whatever reason, our TLs / TL-Ss eat through tires more quickly than most cars. I don't autoX or thrash on my car much at all and they were beat at 22,000 miles. I called DTD and they gave me a 50% credit on my brand new set of tires...so 4 tires only cost me like $200 shipped. Not bad!

I've bought at lease 4 sets of falkens from them previously, and never knew about that warranty. Did you have to pay extra for it, and how do you validate mileage to get them to honor it?

You don't have to pay extra for it, I'm pretty sure it's a manufacturer's warranty. Here's the link to the 912 that shows the warranty:

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=235

The 512s have I believe only a 30,000 mile warranty on them, but the 912s are 40,000.

I'm not sure the official way to validate the mileage to DTD. I have service records showing when the tires were installed, as well as when they were rotated, the mileage intervals, and the mechanic's writeup stating that they needed to be replaced. The guy on the phone at DTD mentioned that sometimes they ask that you ship the tires back to them for verification, but he didn't even ask me for the service records, he just took my word for it haha!

Anyway give it a try, you get a prorated credit based on how many miles you put on them vs the warranty number. For me it was close to 50%, so they just gave me a 50% credit. I've always been really impressed with DTD and their service and pricing.

Edit: I'm pretty sure you can apply that credit to any manufacturer's tire too, so if you wanted to switch it up from the Falkens you can.

When buying tires from DTD, do you just go to a Discount Tire location to do the warranty claim?
