The difference is the springs. Comfort = softest springs. Things just get stiffer from there. Comfort would ride....comfortable. Sport would ride......wait for it.....sporty. The dampers itself would most likely be the same for all the sets since you have the ability to adjust the rebound firmness. Softer setting all around = more comfort for a given spring rate. If you go too soft for a spring, it could get bouncy (but this depends on how soft is "soft" for the damper settings.

As far as damper "tuning" goes...

Rear damper setting controls corner entry:
- softer = more rear grip = more understeer (or less oversteer)
- harder = less rear grip = more oversteer (or less understeer)

Front damper setting controls corner exit
- softer = more front grip = more oversteer (less understeer)
- stiffer = less front grip = more understeer (less oversteer)

yea i get it thats why i said the answer would be kind of obvious but the thing is. what does it feel like to ride a more sportier car? i was going t go with the sport comfort but its recommended to get the sport ones. since most people prefer those I'm wondering what pros it has to the comfort ones ... thanks for your input though you guys are great for taking your time to help me out

I'm going to take a shot at this: the stiffer the suspension (setting) the better the car handles. You know when you're driving a shitty car and when you take a hard corner, and it feels like the entire car is rolling to one side? Well, a sportier suspension gets rid of that feeling and therefore corners better. But the price you pay is that the ride is less forgiving. That is, you will feel more of the bumps in the road.

I'm no physical scientician, but think of it like this - when you go over a bump the car moves and the inertia (force) has to transfer somewhere. If the springs/dampers are set soft, the springs absorb that force because they travel more - much of the force is used to move the springs. If they are set stiffer, then the springs don't travel as far and so you have force leftover. That leftover force is transferred to the chassis and then by association, your seat and ass.

That said, if Excelerate says that 90% of his customers get Street/Sport, then that's good enough for me.

Not that I have much experience with coilovers, but most people probably go with the sport ones because those spring rates are more readily available or standard if you will, on other brands. Maybe other brands don't offer a softer spring rate? I'd say most people that buy coilovers put them on sportier cars and not luxury one's, so the sporty/stiffer spring are more commonly purchased because they may use their cars for other things besides daily driving. Ex: Subaru, a lot of people do auto-x. But again, I'm just taking a shot in the dark with this so take it with a grain of salt.

by far one of the best explanations. i think I'm going to settle with the street comfort for the fact that this tl is my DD, just getting these coil overs to get a nice drop on it with being able to adjust height for rough winters but yea i get what you are saying. thanks a lot man
