eBay 10mm Spacer and Install Question

Long story short I may consider running a 10mm spacer up front instead of the 15mm Akata V2 spacers I'm using now.

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this spacer with extended studs from eBay?

Or would it be more wise to use the Ichiba spacer? The price difference is about $40, but if the eBay brand one is fine then there is no sense paying for just a name.

Also, as far as the installation goes I looked at J's (Rockstar143) write up in the 3G Garage, but I am a little stumped as to why the head of each new stud needs to be grinded down to have a flat spot? Can anyone clarify that for me?

Even if nobody knows anything about the spacers.....does anyone know why the head of the studs needs to be grinded flat in one spot??

What's up Chip?!

The easy answer is that in order to swap out studs on the front of our cars properly, you'd need to pull the hub out and hammer in a new set and then press it and a new bearing back in. To avoid having to do all that, you grind down that part of the stud and it can slide into place with the hub on the car.

Ahhh, I see said the blind man. I'm just surprised that you still have to do that. After all aren't you pulling them in the rest of the way with an air gun? So grinding that edge is still necessary even though an air gun is pulling them in fully?

Yes sir, it's definitely necessary. You can hammer out the old ones without grinding because you don't care about the threads on them...but the new ones, you definitely want to grind down the edge to ensure you can slide them in. When you get in there and remove the rotor, you'll see what I mean.

Cool thanks man. Yeah I figure it's one of those things that when you take it all apart I'll see the bigger picture of what is going on and then it will make more sense to me.
