Drag Radials and Rims

Did a search but came up with nothing.

Any recommendations on a drag radials and rims?

The biggest drag radial I seem to find is on a rim 17x8 but I have no idea if they would fit and 06 AT TL.

I think we have to go 17 to clear the stock brakes.

I am just curious to run the 1/4. To me it seems like a waste going knowing I am going to be pissed I could not hook up.

06-TL-SC

9- inch?

So the set up would be:

17x9 rpf1 35 offset

275/40-17 Nitto NT 555R Drag Tires

275 nitto dr fit on the stock wheel, been there done that. I would suggest 245 45 17 nitto dr on whatever 17x8 wheel u choose. I didnt get bad 60 ft with my 245 35 19 nitto 555 with 41 psi in em. 2.01 60 ft just dont have to hammer the throttle through first but as you know im 6spd.

Nitto or BFG drag radial work nice. My old BFG dragradials would hydroplane at 40mph in the rain but I think you're talking about a set dedicated to track only use, right? Just make sure to get a drag radial, there's a huge difference in traction from even the best "regular" tires.

If you're getting a spare set of rims for the track only, you would be better getting a 15x9" rim with something like a 275/50 tire.

You should be able to get a solid 1.8 60' with some practice. I believe one of the few members here who ran his car at the track pulled a 1.9 on regular tires and a lot of practice. Nice to see someone actually taking it to the track.

That's the reason for the taller 275/50 or 55 tire. The overall diameter would be about the same. Less weight and possibly more traction with low air pressures.

mmmmh ur right because the motor wouldn't throw the weight to the rear... damn the wheel hop... nonexistent.... I am going to look at this also for a track setup... get some random lightweight wheels run spacers and get them painted black with a red lip to match my rear

IF the brakes would clear the 15" rim that would be the best setup, air it way down and then a nice big sidewall to wrinkle damn do I miss racing

don't know much, but I highly doubt you can fit a 15' rim while clearing the brakes. go with lightweight 17 to be safe, or 16.5s if you can find them.

LOL, forgot about the brakes. I'm used to dealing with a car with 10.5" disks. I wonder if a 16" would clear the Brembos?

also recognize that spoke design has an affect on whether you can clear the brembos or not.

Wrinkle is caused by the weight transfer to rear of the car, so I'm not sure how you could wrinkle the fronts.

Wrinkle is from the tire wrapping up. I've seen FWD cars do it though not nearly like RWD cars do.

the tire wrinkles due to biting, the tire grabs, but the rim is now moving a bit faster allowing the tire to retain its traction, if the sidewall is stiffer its not going to have that added advantage that you get from having give in the sidewall, all that weight transfer does is help keep the tires planted by putting extra weight on them.

As for the tire wrapping up, it actually kinda balls up and is refered too as tire shake, I dont have any knowledge of high power FWD cars, but I would imagine that they too can shake the tires

mmmh if you want to run a 15" wheel... spacers would be good... after all it is for track use... so running a spacer would look hot and also functional

What about this set up?

Enkei RPF1: 17x9 :: 5x114.3 :: 35mm offset :: Silver
2 NEW 245/45-17 Nitto NT 555R Drag Tires 45R17 R17 45R

Total cost would be around $ 865.00.

Am I crazy?

if you want the hook then that should certainly help you get it

another option I just thought of is the Mickey Thompson ET Street radial. Its been a few years since Ive been to any significiant drag radial races, but the last time I did all the heavy hitters were running the different version of the MT ET street

they have a 245/45/18 which would look pretty good on a set of 04 a spec wheels unfortunatly they dont have anything in a reasonable size for the 17" rim
