Coilover Install

Hey Guys,

I am planning to install teins on my own, i read a couple of diy's and one says to use a spring compressor when removing the oem springs and shocks. Do I really need the spring compressor? I read the a-spec suspension install from acura and they did not state anything about a spring compressor.

any advice or feedback?

thanks

teins don't come with tophats and the little hardware (nuts and washers) that hold the spring onto the shock. you have transfer your oem tophats and hardware to the teins, so yes you need a spring compressor to hold the springs from popping out and crushing your skull. go to autozone or kragen and rent a spring compressor. it's actually free as long as you return it.

if you buy the a-spec suspension or megans they come with tophats installed. to save time with the install, especially if you've never done it before, you can remove the backseats the day before and buy tophats to assemble the teins before you put them on the car. it's going to cost you and additional $110 but it saves a lot of time on the install and you can keep your old suspension in the closet for a fast swap if you go back to stock.

Believe me, go with the top hats already pre-assembled. It was a bitch having to compress the springs just to re-use the top hats and hardware on the Teins. And since you're DIY, make sure you read the instructions carefully! Failure to do so will result in timeless hours spent having to uncompress/recompress all over again to get things right.

Lol, I completely forgot that we had to use the existing top hats and hardware from our old hardware! makes sense now. haha. I think i am going to buy all new top hats and so forth, and get my back seats out a day or two before I install them. Thanks for all your help guys.

tl2slow - I am in Vancouver, Canada. A ways from you, but thanks for your offer!

Tell you guys how it goes.

I suggest spending $120 on ALL the parts U need to install the Teins and leave your stock OEM coilovers intact, thats what I did. MUCH easier and if

I installed mine myself, and I spent the money I saved on getting new top hats and whatever other parts need to get swapped. That way you have TWO complete suspensions, that you can just swap in and out. It's the easiest way. DO you need a spring compressor? I say "meh." Never used one when I used to drop my Civics and Integras... just put that top hat up against a tire and when I got to the end of the thread just go slow and it will pop into the tire... no biggie. Disclaimer: worked for me, I'm not responsible! lol
