Coilover Choice

Hey Guys,
I drive an '05 Tl and am planning on lowering my car on coilovers, but due to my limited budget (in highschool) im up in the air about which brand to choose. Ive been leaning towards function form type 1s. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

To help you out I would suggest that you do some searching on the different options, there is plenty on the forum regarding this topic

When the f&f shocks blow like many peoples has youll be in the hole more money than a good pair of coils. Save up and get one of the good brands. Bc,isc, tein, megan.

I would make sure the car is up to date on maintenance before purchasing aftermarket parts.

If the car is mechanically fine, TEIN SA give you a great balance of ride height adjustment and ride quality. However, they don't go as low as other brands, so you need to decide what you want out of suspension. Low with a risk of a rougher ride, or smooth ride and not crazy slammed.

F&F are okay if you just want it to be lowered or slammed.
Ride seems to be fine - feels like stock in my opinion
I don't like that you can't adjust the damper - hence why i will be upgrading to BC's

I would stay from F&F. Take a look at the TEIN Street Basis. It's going to be the best, if not one of the best bangs for buck you can get.

TEIN Dampers - Street Basis - Excelerate Performance - Japanese and European Performance Specialists!!

They don't have damping adjustment like the Street Advance do but if you're just daily driving the car, the Street Basis comes set right at Tein's recommended stiffness which is more than sufficient. They do a great job of providing comfort without sacrificing performance and vise versa.

Do the FnF type 1's easily blow out? I too am on a budget and am eyeing the type 1's. i just want to be very low but don't care too much about stiffening the ride. Don't all coils automatically help cars handling since its lower? Or since the type 1's don't damper do they still sway or are they better than stock? I can see how having a stiffer ride can help from bottoming out but aren't the fnf type 1's still pretty good or is it night and day b/w the 1's and 2's? To a kid who just wants some improved ride quality but with a main emphasis on being LOW do you think the type 1's will do the trick?

the consensus with the 3G crowd and type 1's is, you will not get that.
i'd suggest doing a little more homework....
besides tires and brakes, suspension is one of the most important things you will change/mod. Don't cheap out.

If you want a good quality coilover that is reliable, durable, fairly inexpensive, and adjusts ride height get the TEIN Street Basis coilovers:

OP, I recommend the coils. I was in the same boat as you, in high school and just wanted to slam to the floor. I've had them for over a year now about 10k on them and they're still working great. And, I've got them wound down pretty low.

My Function & From Type 1s are doing good so far. I've had them for about 10k now and I've been pretty low the whole time. I may have just gotten lucky with my set but I have no complaints. ride is similar to stock, it does still sway a bit. The coils definitely go as low as anyone would possibly want to go, even still the ride quality is similar to stock. For less sway, you might want a different suspension.

Take your time and save your money. Buying cheap parts for a nice car is potentially downgrading your nice car. Dont be unreasonable.

Save some money and do it right ! I had FF on other cars and they were OK. You get what you pay for. I had D2s on my TL and I hated them. Granted they felt great on my civic; ligher chassis ?

I opted for BC extreme low with custom spring rates. Well worth the $1k. I LOVE the ride. They're the best I've ever had. Well worth it IMO.
