Chrome-look aspecs

Hey Guys
I have a set of chrome-look aspecs that have chips and curb damage. I ve read that the chrome is actually paint. Is this true? Can I have these repainted another color without having to sandblast the chrome off?
thanks

So chrome look aspecs are real chrome? I saw somewhere that they are actually painted hence the name "chrome look" can anyone else confirm?

Just found this on handa-accessories

Chrome Look Wheel 18"
Not for 2006 - 2008 Models
Genuine Acura TL wheel 18" Chrome look wheel.
New paint process creates real chrome look; mild soap and water keeps it shining.
This wheel requires larger, lower profile tire (Acura recommends Yokohama ES100 235/40R18 95W). tire not included.
NOTE: The recommended tire is a summer tire, and is not suitable for driving on snow or ice.
This is NOT a chrome wheel, using a chome polish on this wheel will destroy the finish. See paperwork that comes with wheels for specific cleaning instructions.

I believe all A-Spec wheels, no matter the finish, are all painted. My Gunmetal A-Spec's are painted as well, and due to their age, the paint is starting to flake off.

To make sure that doesn't happen to you later down the road, I would suggest getting them fully re-chromed or powdercoated a different color. Mine are getting powdercoated the stock gunmetal color eventually.

No the stock wheels are not true chrome thank goodness... true chrome the entire wheel is dipped in "chrome" and it creates a thin metallic layer on the wheel that tends to chip and rust over time. The Acura wheels are aluminum wheels that have been painted with a metallic colored paint that looks like chrome...if you ever see your wheels without a tire mounted you can actually see where they paint stops since they only paint the face of the wheel so even the back of the wheel is a different color than the face....anyways, it should not be much of a hassle to get them repainted
