I bought rims and tires from another AZ member and he shipped them via FedEx Freight. I don't know what the shipping cost was but they arrived in great shape.
I sold and shipped one 18" A-Spec rim here on AZ from MA to TX via FedEx and it cost $26. $300-400 does sound out of sight, but don't know how you have them packed. Dimensional size can trump weight depending on how you ship it. I shipped it in the original Honda/Acura box and even though it has been a couple of years since, it hasn't gone up that much.

$26 a box? Or total?

Do a search. Someone posted a link to a company that he used to ship tire/rims at a discount. It's been a while, but it was on this forum...

I shipped 4 XXR 530s wrapped in conti DWS for less than $100 with Shipnex.com. They pick up from your house and they use FedEx. They are a wholesale shipper. Google using shipnex to ship rims and you will hear lots of good stories. Great experience all around and would recommend them for all larger or heavy items and those that are odd shapes.
BTW, best way to package rims and tires is to cut thick cardboard the circumference of the rim and then tape it to the face of the rims both back and front and then wrap the entire wheel and tire in sticky clingy wrap. Cheapest way to keep the dimensions down too.
