Cool Can you put 20's on a TL

Just bought a TL last week and want to upgrade my wheels. Can I put 20's on it? What is largest wheel that will fit without comprising the driving experience?

The picture of the TL on the intro page is 20". I am not sure if the body of this prototype is the same as the stock car.

Search on cardomain. somebody put 20s on it. IMO 20s will greatly decrease the performance of the car. 18s are good especially the oem 18s. 19s are the biggest i would go with an inch drop all around....

I agree that 19s would be as big as I would go too. With the right size tire, I think you can keep a reasonable overall diameter. I think that 20s look funny and are not worth the pain in the a** that they are gonna be.

the car on the homepage has 21" custom Enkei rims, they arent available. this car also had extensive mods as a concept vehicle, i.e. larger fender wells, wider body, and AWD to name a few. 21" will NOT fit a normal TL. 20s are pushing it, tho it can be done. i think the 19 is the best alternative...so thats what i got!

Are you sure those are 21"? There are no 21" on the market today (but as you said, specially made).

Also, using photoshop, I measured the wheels relative to the car based on the picture, and it's the same width as the rear window... anyway, it translated to about 20", not 21".

You have source that says they are 21"?

Those are 21s on the TL on the hompage. That car is totally custom (and looks tight in person). 20s on a TL look forced and silly. 19s max with a drop.

Hey B-Dub,

i got 20's on mine, so you can can hear it from the me... I like it. i also lowered it with the eibach prokit 1 inch drop. look at my post "just lowered my TL on 20's"
as for ride, it rides the same as any other car on 18's, 19's with thin tires. as for performance still seems pretty fast to me. not sure about the other guys but i m not runing the 1/4 mile or timing my 0-60 every time i hit the gas.

I actually think that even 18's, but certainly 19 or 20's have an asthetic problem with the brakes.. need to upgrade to a larger 14" or so BBK to make it look balanced.. I always thought cars with huge wheels and tiny little brakes looked out of balance.. just my 2 cents...

from a pure performance perspective, the 17's will win (weight and moment of inertia)

I tried my friend's 18s on my lowered TL and they looked like toys. If you are going to upgrade, gotta go at least 19 so you can tell there is a difference in size. Not sure the brake look is that important, but a big break upgrade is always nice.

I just saw your pics of your car lowered, I must have missed them when you first posted them. While I still can't say that I like the wheels, I have to admit that I think your car looks good. Man, I hope this doesn't mean I am starting to like chrome dubs. :banghead:

does anyone know if you can get a kit to put a 14" rotor underneath the (already good) brembo caliper? i still think even 18's make things look out of balance.. braking capacity will go way down with 19s and 20s.. you'd probably need a bracket to relocate the caliper...

thanks...yeah we all have are tastes...i ve acctually been contemplating on switching them to a hyper black rim...still thinking about it.. but either why i ll still do 20's... good luck. but like VTEC implied i wouldnt go with 17's to small stick with the stocks in that case. cuz its gonna look stock anyway..19's or 20's will make the car look good and stand out.
i dont think people buy wheels different from stock, not to be noticed. my .02

Yes you can fit 20's, just go with a 245-35-20. I don't understand why so many people hate on the chrome. It looks so much better than the gunmetal. I mean if you want gunmetal, why not just stick with the stock wheels? By the way, the 20's look great! Keep the chrome, but nex time you get tires, get 245's....they will look better.

Hmmm, 20" wheels on a TL equates to a severely diminished driving experience; that and they look dumb.

The 3G TL is designed for 17 and 18 inch wheels. Anything bigger is liable to affect performance in some way and make much more susceptible to pothole damage to the tires and wheels. Furthermore, they'll make the car look more ghetto
